But when she discovers that Russell has been dealing large amounts of marijuana without her knowledge, she cuts him off, realizing the damage this could do to her family. Unfortunately, it's too late, and Susan is arrested and subjected to an arduous trial, where she refuses to plea bargain because she knows she is innocent. This stands to create an even heavier sentence for her, and as others involved in the case implicate her in order to lessen their own punishments, Susan struggles against a bureaucratic court system that refuses to look beyond her presumed guilt by association.
