This week, get your Miley Cyrus fix with Hannah Montana's feature-length trip to the big screen (Hannah Montana The Movie), or do a complete 180-degree turn with the latest Hollywood horror remake (Last House on the Left). Director James Toback goes the documentary route with boxing's Iron Mike (Tyson), while David Lynch's daughter Jennifer continues the family legacy for eccentric thrills (Surveillance, starring Julia Ormond and Bill Pullman). Actress Lori Petty makes her directorial debut with a personal indie drama (The Poker House) while Tilda Swinton turns in a powerhouse performance as an alcoholic kidnapper (Julia). An '80s sci-fi gaming classic makes its way to Blu-ray (The Last Starfighter) and we take a look at a trio of Toho reissues and new TV on DVD inside!

Hannah Montana: The Movie -- 45%

The power of Hannah Montana cannot be denied. After a solid critical reaction to her 'tween-fueled Best of Both Worlds Concert movie, Disney star Miley Cyrus brought her onscreen alter ego into theaters again, this time in a feature-length film. Cyrus stars as Miley Stewart, a Tennessee teenager who moonlights as the uber-popular pop singer, Hannah Montana; when her increasing celebrity threatens to take over Miley's ego, her country music singing dad (played by Cyrus's real-life country music singing dad, Billy "Achy Breaky Heart" Ray -- stay with us here) takes her back to the homestead to get back to her roots. Teen sitcom clichés and plenty of Disney pop tunes ensue, making this a guaranteed hit among the young Hannah Montana faithful --- if not among older audiences and critics. A generous menu of special features include bloopers, deleted scenes, director commentary, and more, and even the stodgiest of detractors can't resist the disc's piece de resistance, which you can watch exclusively here on Rotten Tomatoes: a how-to lesson on doing the Hoedown Throwdown Dance ("Pop it, lock it, polka dot it...")!

Even though torture porn has far out-stayed its welcome, I'll check out "Last House On The Left". I have to be honest, though, I didn't really care for the original. I really appreciate it as an iconic sort of horror film, but it didn't compare to Craven's other, less appreciated movies, like "The Hills Have Eyes" and "The Serpant and the Rainbow".

I missed the first episode of Sons Of Anarchy, so I never bothered watching it. Now I've got my chance to really wach it. The new season of "Dexter" is really what excites me.

I wanna rent The Last House on the Left, Tyson, and I kind of want to check out Surveillance. I still have so many unwatched dvds that I gotta catch up on- Wire Box Set, John Adams, and I'm still itching to check out the battle star galactica box set.

The Adams series was pretty interesting. I never knew he was such a whiney biatch. Last House was pretty much the "Feel Bad" movie of the year it premiered I'm sure. And Starfighter owned.

John Adams is NOT representative of the book at ALL or even close to historically accurate in many respects. It basically takes all the negative aspects of the book and focuses it. They completey ignore the treaty of paris(peace treaty between england and US) which is his greatest achievment. If you dont know anything about adams i guess it good but if you have read the book or know anything about history of the man then its an abomination.

I don't know about "Last House", or "Surveillance" (they look lame) but "Tyson" is more than worth your time.

Finally! All my "Hannah Montana" questions are answered! Like,

"Why the f**k was this made?"...

I guess that's it.

Eh, I love Amadeus and like Pocahontas, and both of those are grossly historically inaccurate.

As others mentioned, Tyson, Last House, and Surveillance look interesting. I like the original Last House a lot, and the remake intrigues me. I doubt Tyson will make me actually like the man, though.

I haven't even bought season 10 or 11 yet, so I'm not buying the Simpsons 12th season now.

There is something about Dexter that is extremely off-putting to me, maybe its the almost offensive oversimplification of Socio/Psychopaths and how that actually works (both the killer's psyche and the investigation into the crimes of a serial killer).

Jen, did you do Number 9 just for me? ;) Everybody should see the original Japanese (with english subtitles, no dubs! dubs only belong on the bad ones to enhance the experience) Gojira. Its a masterpiece of Japanese film and is actually very powerful and touching.

"...a guaranteed hit among the young Hannah Montana faithful --- if not among older audiences and critics." But you're not supposed to speak for the young and naive viewers here! This is Rotten Tomatoes! When a movie sucks, we don't go around singing its praises! Sometimes I swear you guys have been taking bribes. I'll even invoke Ebert. "No checks and balances prevail. The mass media is the ***** of marketing. Almost every single second of television coverage of the movies is devoted to thinly-veiled promotion." And a lot of times it's the same damn thing here.

Why was it made? I don't know, but people are saying that neo Disney is greedy and looking to swindle cash out of preppy pre-teens and their soccer moms. Miley Cyrus is highly likely a brat who would never give a normal guy like me the time of day, so **** her.

@roaddog, that is pretty funny, Neo Disney has been greedy for some time, you only really realize it when you get kids of your own and they buy into it. I can buy a CD of almost any band I am a fan of and not spend over $10 on it.

A Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus or Jonas Bros CD will put me back 15-20. Same with their movies. You will never find one of their movies on the $5 rack or even the $10 rack, they have been a greedy capitalist machine sucking peoples pockets dry through their kids for years.

This is one of the reasons I support piracy :)

Surveillance, honestly, has a sequence within it that is the funniest thing I've seen all year involving French Stewart whispering in another man's ear "The kids look distressed, do snow angels with me!" Other than that, I literally called the twist during the opening credits before anything had happened.

Last House on the Left was better, and thankfully less gruesome or graphic than I expected. I really wish people would stop throwing Last House (2009) in with the torture porn category. Yes, there is a rape, which is uncomfortable, but there are other movies with a rape, that aren't considered torture porn. Also, the violence and various deaths are not that graphic or prolonged (the last one is a bit gruesome, but over so quick.) If you compare it to actual torture porn movies such as Hostel, it doesn't even stack up. I hate torture porn movies, as well as this new craze with them, and I would hate to see a decent film thrown in with the lot.

That said, I'm not sure yet whether I want to buy it or not, but if I do I'll probably wait a little while. Does anyone know if the unrated cut is any more graphic?

I do want to pick up The Beast on DVD because, suffice to say, Patrick Swayze is still a beast. It's a great show that everyone should check out. I also want to check out Sons of Anarchy, so I'll rent that on DVD.

As for Surveillance, I like Bill Pullman, but I've heard the film is pretty disturbing, so I'll have to look into it more before I rent it.

Interesting theory, ZigBallistic. I read on YouTube that kids should illegally download the Kidz Bop songs rather than buy the CDs.

Captain Siberia! I was a touch kind to Hannah Montana because I didn't mind the movie all that much myself. I liked it about 45%, maybe. Besides, I was genuinely excited to nab that exclusive - THE HOEDOWN THROWDOWN!! Perhaps you don't know how many times I've tried to learn it, for reals. Sad but true. I peel away the layers just for you.

Personally, I enjoyed The Last House on the Left. Yes not the most fun movie to sit through, but it was well-made, well-acted, and very suspenseful in parts. I wanna check out Surveillance, and I wanted to see Julia, but it never really played near me. I'll rent the latter two, and I can recommend Last House on the Left
