Timothy Olyphant Addresses Hitman Rumors
Did Fox fire Xavier Gens? CHUD says yes.
by Jeff Giles | November 06, 2007
Discuss Article
About a month ago, we discussed a rumor regarding 20th Century Fox's supposed sacking of Hitman director Xavier Gens -- and the studio's rumored desire for a PG-13 film. Fox later refuted the rumor...but doth the studio protest too much?

CHUD certainly thinks so. In a report posted today, the site publishes quotes from the film's star, Timothy Olyphant, that would seem to indicate Gens was fired after all. According to CHUD's Russ Fischer, Olyphant "confirmed" Gens' dismissal, although the quotes included in the article don't explicitly say so. In fact, when asked about the Hitman reshoots, Olyphant seems to have had tongue planted firmly in cheek:

"I saw [Gens] when I was there [doing the reshoots] but he did not direct the reshoots. I heard the talk on that, that he was fired. I kept saying I was trying to get that guy fired for months. They finally fired him? I was saying that forever. He doesn't speak English, didn't anybody see that?"

Olyphant goes on to assure readers that Hitman remains "very violent," saying that if the rumors of heavy, PG-13-style editing were true, "we'd have a 45-minute film." To read more of his remarks, click on the link below!

I've seen TV ads for Hitman and it says "Rated R". So stop panicking already

I hope it's extreme "R" cause thats how kickass Hitman is. Strangle a man to death, take his cloths and shove him in a locker. Then pass by security and snipe your target right in the eyeball!

i'll never understand what logical reason for doing a toned down R movie. if its R...its R. why would you take off anything just to get the same rating?? if they did in fact take stuff out, they're stupid...

i don't know about this flick. its a video game one so its legally binding to be a suckfest but...some of the previews look decent. plus Olyphant was decent in 16 blocks 2(aka the die hard sequel), and he's the sh3t in Deadwood...

the reason studios try sometimes for a toned-down R-rated movie is because the really graphic ones are usually heavily supervised by managers and/or security in front of the entrance. Theaters will never admit this, but the softer R's aren't monitored nearly as much as the hard R's.

Olyphant was aweson The Girl Next Door. This movie is going to suck the same way all video game movies do. It's going to do average box office and find a better home on DVD because the people who play the game won't leave their parents' basement to see it. They only leave for LOTR and Star Wars.

olyphant is alright, but i dont see him as hitman... anyhoo, this movie will just be another amusing way to pass the time, like the original XXX or shoot em up or something silly like that.

not that there is anything wrong with that, but lets not make a mountain out of a molehill.

dreamworx, i see your point but i have a problem with that reasoning. the MAJORITY of the time...they buy a ticket to a kiddy movie...then go sneak in the R rated one. right? so...the studio isn't banking jack sh3t. they didn't get the money because the kid bought the ticket to the kid's movie. so again, WHY, LOGICALLY...do it? so the little kid can go blog about how COOL the movie is and have his other kid friends buy tix to the kid movie and AGAIN not gain anything for the R rated one? not seeing the point here.

Gimy is right when it comes to kids wanting to see rated R films and they are too young. I work in a movie theatre and the kids just buy tickets to a pg or pg-13 movie and then try to sneak in so studios wouldn't care which kind of Rated R it is because the kids can't buy the tickets to it anyway. My theatre checks tickets on anyone young going into a R rated film no matter if it is a hard R or soft R. We have both Saw IV and American Gangster and both are monitored the same.

as long as they keep the operatic score i'll be happy, for some reason that game always knew when i was closing in for a kill, and the music would soar...then i would push the stick too hard, run into the back of the goon and alert the whole place, ahhhh...memories

aconline, what problem do you have with those of us who live in our parents basement? i lived in my parents basement til i was 20, then i moved out after i got a job...i couldn't afford it til then. now, i have a real job, a semblance of a life, and i dont come out just for nerd/fantasy movies...i'm offended by your generalization as to those of us who lived in our parents basement at one time.

I find it overly hillarious that RT is reporting on CHUD's article with Olyphant and NOT IGN's article (seeing as how IGN is their parent company). IGN was also invited to that roundtable with Olyphant and specifically noted that he was indeed joking. Crack reporting RT, crack reporting.

BTW, blank blank, what was wrong with Shoot Em' Up, again?

Just because a movie is not an oscar-calibur film, does not mean it is not a good one nonetheless. First off, no one should have their hopes up for this film. BUT, it will be good. Olyphant has waited too long for his shot to let it waste away. Trust me children, go into this experience with an open mind and no expectation, and you will walk away fulfilled.

Peace. Love. Empathy.
