Come Visit Yimou's City of Gold Armor
The City of Golden Armor, number three of Zhang Yimou's action epic series (following Hero and House of Flying Daggers), is presently under production in and around China. Click here to check out some impressive on-set video footage, courtesy of a website called MonkeyPeaches.com.
Starring Chow Yun-Fat, Gong Li, Liu Ye, and Jay Chou, The City of Golden Armor is about "the ill-fated romance between an imperial bodyguard and a prince (that) takes the lovers on a dangerous journey where royal family secrets are revealed." (That's what the IMDb says, anyway.)

Aoiboy writes: on Apr 13 2006 01:24 PM Nah, seriously now, I am dying to see the final product. I think Yimou is a brilliant director, and I like the work of the leads as well. Hopefully he will work once again with the cinematographer of "Hero" (Reply to this) |

ninjaandy writes: on Apr 13 2006 08:56 PM You're right, of course. We don't really know anything about it. My apologies. I'm just about brokebacked out, though, so I'm ready to jump the gun. Too much of a mediocre thing. Too much movie, too many jokes, too much Ledger, too much Gyllenhall, just way too fraking much. I'm actually more nervous because I loved Hero, but hated Flying Daggers, so I'm hoping he pulls it back together for this one. (Reply to this) |

Not nearly as much as "Hero", but it was still one of the better action flicks I've seen. I also appreciated the fact that even the regular soldiers in it were competent and highly trained, and not just a bunch of red shirts. Can't wait for this one. (Reply to this) |

eye_of_the_pyramid writes: on Apr 14 2006 01:24 AM Daggers was truly terrible. The second half is the stuff of, er, legends. I still remember it as one of the worst examples of self-destruction (it began well, I'll give it that) in cinema. (Reply to this) |

proptart writes: on Apr 18 2006 07:17 AM Oh, no...no, not the vague possibility of another movie giving a gay love story the same kind of treatment straight ones receive all the time! Anything but that! Seriously, whether or not the movie is gay (doubt it; China doesn't even want to show Brokeback Mountain, let alone let one of their directors tell their own gay-themed love story), that was an ugly little show of homophobia up there. If you didn't like Brokeback, that's your business, but why go around crying about the possibility of another gay love movie? (Reply to this) |
