Pixar, Disney on the Outs
Steve Jobs continues to maintain that Pixar and Disney will not renew their distribution agreement. Specifically, Jobs has said the company would not participate in sequels to "Monsters Inc.," "Finding Nemo," and "The Incredibles," as well as "Toy Story 3," all of which Disney plans to make. Eisner called Pixar's human animation "pathetic," to which Jobs retorted, "I know our films don't stack up against films like 'Atlantis' or 'Emperor's New Groove,' or 'Treasure Planet.' We just kind of wrote that off to Michael being a loose canon."

Impavido writes: on Feb 12 2005 05:50 PM YAY I look forward to Pixar taking its own direction. Although they have made the most enjoyable family films I've ever seen, I'd like to see them try something for a more mature audience. Perhaps they can succeed where Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within failed. (Reply to this) |

Ophiuchus writes: on Feb 13 2005 12:44 AM I'm fairly certain that Pixar animators never tried to make their animated humans look real. They would have done a great job of it if they had. Anyway, what's Eisner doing making nasty jealous remarks? I thought he got the sack. Sequels to all the other Pixar movies? Now I really know there is no god. (Reply to this) |

The Senhman writes: on Feb 13 2005 12:09 PM In reply to this comment (#819733) That comment just shows how out of touch Eisner is. What I admired about Pixar is that their concentration was never on the technology, but on the story. They always have very witty scripts, and they only use enough technology to make their script work. Final Fantasy's focus was making the most realistic humans on screen and look what happened. xunwedsailorx writes: on Feb 13 2005 01:29 PM give me a whale now.. the thing is, pixar is very well aware of the appearance of their characters. in the special features of nemo they show the first test of the water appearance. they told their animators, "gimme your best imitation of water and a whale in it" the animators did it, and on the DVD they showed the two movie clips, side by side and any viewer would have trouble differentiating real from Pixars animation. Eisner is a complete and total idiot. he has more to worry about that Pixar making good films. he just laid off some of his best people, leaving an all to inevitable future ahead of him. i give disney a few more decades of pure garbage and then they sell. Ophiuchus writes: on Feb 13 2005 03:45 PM No wonder Pixar isn't going to be working with Disney again. There obviously isn't any love lost between Jobs and Eisner at least. I really liked Jobs' sarcastic reply. A little sarcasm can go a long way. I have a feeling Eisner's afraid that Pixar will take over the animation market. Why else would he feel the need to be nasty toward them? Anger stems from fear. (Reply to this) |

renodc writes: on Feb 13 2005 07:50 PM Iger and Eisner It's been interesting keeping an eye on this battle for power in the Magic Kingdom. The suprising thing to me is that with Iger and Eisner's recent track record of stupidity that they are continuing to seemingly gain ground. The most obvious debaucle is that with the loss of Pixar, which has been Disney's Golden Goose. Obviously, Iger and Eisner have lost touch with what viewer's want to see. I read recently on IMDB that a memo from Eisner has arisen that he wrote right after seeing "Finding Nemo" for the first time saying that it wasn't good and that this was going to be Pixar's first flop and was going to bring them down to earth. He was wrong by about a billion dollars. The most recent example of Iger and Eisner loosing touch came from Loyd Braun, who was fired right before ABC's fall television season began by the pair because he disregarded an order to kill a potential series after the two had viewed the pilot and both hated it. Braun said that Iger was vehement that the concept and story was terrible and nobody would ever want to watch it. Eisner thought it might do OK as a mini-series, but never work as a regular series. That pilot was for the smash hit series "Lost", which is ironic because that is what best describes Iger and Eisner - Lost. (Reply to this) |
