Iron Man Opening Early -- With New Indy 4 Trailer in Tow?
All your spring movie dollars are belong to Paramount.

Pssst -- Iron Man fans. You don't have plans for April 30, do you?

According to ComingSoon's Edward Douglas, that's the day that Jon Favreau's live-action adaptation of the long-running Marvel title -- starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard, and Jeff Bridges -- will be reaching theaters around the world. The news comes straight from the mouth of Paramount Pictures International's president, Andrew Cripps, who made his remarks at ShoWest's International Day.

As Douglas points out, the move wouldn't be without precedent; in fact, Paramount employed a similar creep-it-up strategy with Transformers last year. It'd certainly help raise anticipation for Iron Man -- as would bundling screenings with a new trailer for another high-profile Paramount release, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which Cripps hinted could be a possibility. All in favor of just going ahead and naming May 2008 Paramount Month, say "aye."

Jon Favreau should have a movie about Starks social nightlife and call it 'Swingers 2'. Why is he doing this project again!? He come's off as a guy who should be directing an NBC sitcom or Friends special.

So is this a case of wanting to space out Iron Man and Indiana, instead of having them compete against each other? Or something else...

Umm, I think an update already appeared on CommmingSoon:

"UPDATE: ComingSoon.net has confirmed with Paramount Pictures that the domestic release date is still May 2."

Based on the trailer, I'd be suprised if Iron Man is any good.

I think it will follow the Fantastic Four model: Plenty of hype and therefore gross, but an all-around mediocre movie.

I'm giving Iron Man a chance, largely because Downey Jr is in the role, and he seems like a perfect Tony Stark.

In reply to this comment (#1628426)
It will be better because Downey is Iron Man and not some unknown like the guy who plays Mr. Fantastic. Plus no bad Jessica Alba acting and bad Thing costume.

The preview looks good and I think, at the least, it will fill the void for a legit big budget marvel superhero left by Spiderman.

Iron Man looks to be an "A" movie while Thor, Avengers and others will fill in the void for "B" movies (which Ghost Rider/ Fantastic Four falls into).

They just announced that it is only opening May 2nd here in the U.S. but April 30th Internationally. Why should another country have dibbs at seeing a movie that is purely American before us!!!!

Oh #)($*&$ Paltrow is in Iron Man? UGH. One of the worst oscar winners (Shakespeare in Love) EVER. Plus she seems to be pretentious as hell in real life. Maybe her little kid "APPLE" will show up and shoot worms and seeds at Iron Man.

Iron Man should have a new villain:The Rust Corrosive Pissing Man.

However, if Paltrow dies in the film...probably be worth watching. I just hate it when I'm the only one in the theater Laughing (Like when Darth Vader went no-o-o-o-o-o on learning about Padme's death, or when Sophie Coppola finally died in Godfather III)

I think Iron Man looks good. I too am a little worried about the amount of goofyness in this movie. I don't take really well to that type of thing, I prefer a little more realism. If they keep that to a minimum, then it should go pretty well. I'm excited non-the-less, so I'm happy to go see it earlier than I anticipated. Though my wife can't stay awake at a movie past 8:00, so I might have to go to a noon showing anyways......
