Consensus: Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience should please the brothers' adoring followers, but for non-converts, this concert film is largely flat and unenlightening.

Runtime: 76 mins

Genre: Musical & Performing Arts

US Box Office: $19,024,826

Synopsis: Pop singing sensations the Jonas Brothers make their feature-film debut in this concert experience. Pop singing sensations the Jonas Brothers make their feature-film debut in this concert experience. From their beginnings on the Disney Channel to the enormous fame that came after the 2007 release of their self-titled debut album, the New Jersey natives have followed a similar path to other tween pop idols like Miley Cyrus and Hilary Duff. But unlike those two, the real-life brothers have mostly appeared as themselves, not adopting on-screen personae like Cyrus’s Hannah Montana. For a band so young, they take their music seriously and hold their fans dear. While they’ve got producers working left and right to perfect their smooth look and sound, all three young men have a say in the band’s creative direction. Taking their musical act to the big screen, Kevin, Joe, and Nick delight their large pre-teen and teenage fan base with their cute looks, youthful energy, and musical optimism. The Disney film takes Jonas fans along with the band as they travel across the U.S. on their "Burning Up" tour, with guest spots by Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato. The film is packed not only with concert material, but also with backstage happenings as the band uses its pop sensibilities to try to make sense of love, newfound celebrity, and growing up. Filmed in July and August of 2008, the film focuses largely on two concert venues: Anaheim's Honda Center, and New York’s Madison Square Garden. Fan favorites are performed alongside one previously unreleased Jonas Brothers track, "Love Is On Its Way." [More]

Call us cynical, but isn't there something just a tiny bit iffy about three sworn virgins performing a rock show in which the climax has them shooting gallons of white "party" foam over their adoring girl fans?

This toe-curling dip into the sickly-sweet musical world of the Jonas brothers is innocuous and dull.

The songs wash over in waves of such turgid mediocrity that by the end you’re praying for it to stop. Thankfully, after 76 minutes, it does – and all is well again.

In a struggling music economy, the big screen can be big money -- for the right acts. And the Jonas Brothers are exactly that.

Applying criticism to Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience is like trying to lasso a bull with dental floss. It's not going to stop the bull and no one's really going to notice.

As sunglasses and guitar picks fly...and mics and pointing drumsticks thrust out of the screen, it's a sort of metaphor for the whole film (and the band it captures) to ponder which effects are "real" and which are manufactured in a computer. [Blu-ray]

Girls are crazy. I don't mean they're mildly emotional or excitable. I mean completely nuts. At least the girls flocking to see the new 3D Jonas Brothers movie are.

This personality vacuum is a real problem in a film that purports to depict a day in the life of young pop stars whom audiences can actually relate to.

This movie spends too much time on stage, and not enough off.

At 76 minutes, the film is nearly twice as long as even the band’s most dedicated admirers might need, with weariness setting in around the 40-minute mark.

It's a Pavlovian thing. See swarthy (and shirtless!) teen heartthrob Joe Jonas standing backstage in 3-D: scream.

I'm a fan of power-pop, and I was even an unapologetic Hanson listener when it was uncool to be one, so I wish I could be more enthusiastic about the actual music here.

The tunes are so bland it could be the same song on a loop, while the performances are spirited but nondescript.

The music is unmemorable, the staging conventional, the connection between religious and sexual ecstasy very evident.
