Soon his swanky mansion is being repossessed and he's stuck carrying groceries for his Aunt Ruby. Then he hits on an idea crazy enough to work: He disguises himself as a woman, dubbed Juwanna Mann, and with the unwitting help of his long-suffering agent (Kevin Pollack) lands a contract with the WNBA Charlotte Banshees. At first it's just a chance to flaunt his skills, but soon Jamal is learning the value of teamwork, especially after he falls head over heels for Banshee captain Michelle (Vivica Fox). The film relies on a colorful string of familiar cliches, but they succeed because of its witty script and winning cast. Of particular note are IN LIVING COLOR alumni Kim Wayans as a shy lesbian and Tommy Davidson as the gold-teeth-flashing Puff Smokey Smoke, who falls for Juwanna. R&B crooner Ginuwine is Puff's honey smooth pal Romeo, who is two-timing Michelle. WNBA stars such as Teresa Witherspoon appear as themselves. JUWANNA MANN is the first feature film for music video director Jesse Vaughan. [More]

Reviews for Juwanna Mann
The idea of transposing the story to the macho, greedy world of big-time sports is promising, but director Jesse Vaughan delivers only flat dialogue and predictable situations.
The movie is sloppily edited, the gags limply staged, the dialogue and jokes stiff and stale. Even the action on the basketball court is unimaginative and boring.
An unpersuasive moral journey, with a smattering of laughs, that fails to justify the insulting premise that only a man can help the ladies win at both basketball and love.
...about as exciting to watch as two last-place basketball teams playing one another on the final day of the season.
Vaughan brings such disregard to the film that its pedestrian on-court action might as well have been shot from the bleacher seats.
It’s hard to know what to make of a film such as this, with its implicit message that it takes men to empower women in sports.
The referee should have cried 'foul' on this long before it hit the screens.
'Wouldn’t it be nice if all guys got a taste of what it’s like on the other side of the bra?'
This mess of a movie is nothing short of a travesty of a transvestite comedy.
It's such a mechanical endeavor [that] it never bothers to question why somebody might devote time to see it.
I can't imagine anyone taking anything positive away from Juwanna Mann, other than the conviction that it's not a very good movie.
