Tarantino Plans to Put "Bill" Back Together Again
by Scott Weinberg | December 23, 2005
Discuss Article | Blog Article | Email To A Friend
Brit movie site The Digital Spy, which I found by way of the (rather awesome) Cinematical blog, shares a brief bit of news regarding the certifiably insane Quentin Tarantino and his plans to smoosh "Kill Bill" 1 & 2 back into one (long) movie.

""I want to cut the whole movie together like one big epic with an intermission in the middle like a 60s film," explained the iconic director. "It'll be coming out in theatres."

"I've been holding off because I've been working on it for so long that I just wanted a year off from Kill Bill and then I'll do the big supplementary DVD package.""
--

As much as we (and by "we" I mean hardcore movie geeks) really dug the "Kill Bill" flicks, are we still all that hyped up to see it again in theaters? Either way, the re-release will undoubtedly yield a mega-swanky DVD edition that, yes, I know I'll be purchasing.

Well, I would go see it again at the theater just to see those really cool fight scenes on the big screens again.

i would just rather have the "mega-swanky DVD edition" that everyone has been waiting forever for. it's been over a year (especially over a year since he's made the movie itself) and I don't wanna fall for the bare-bones dvd versions. Rodriguez was able to come out with his awesome dvd edition of Sin City pretty quickly. COME ON NOW! haha.

About time!
I remember a Miramax rep. saying they were going to have a ton of DVD versions, such as the current parts 1 and 2, the Japanese cuts of 1 and 2, a box set of 1 and 2 of each version, and in the end a masterwork director's cut as is announced here. I STILL haven't bought the Kill Bill DVDs because I'm waiting for this very thing, and I absolutely loved those movies. It's killing me to wait, so I'm glad to hear that these plans have not been dropped. (For posterity I think having several releases is stupid, I just want this mega-swanky DVD and be done with it.)

So... nothing new added or anything? Oh well. I'll still get the DVD.

Tarantino is a genius.

Just last week, while watching the long-drawn King Kong, I remember my friend leaning over and whispering "I wish there was an intermission".

There hasn't been an intermission in a movie since God-knows how long, and this is a ballzy move by Quentin to re-edit the movie into a 3+ hour monster, all in the name of hardcore fans and his true-to-cinema attitude.

Much kudoes from me

Only one aspect of KB that was/is of aesthetic value: and that's Uma Thurmann in the yellow (Bruce Lee homage) biker jumpsuit and japanese sword(katana?). It simply wasn't a great film, if this is Quarantino's reverence for the genre (kung fu, and early 70s type films) it doesn't come through, which is why I gave it away for free to a co-worker of mine. I saw a bit of KB2, but, naw, I am firmly not interested and am mystified. The story with absurd characters(which, maybe, MIGHT be the idea, nevertheless, still absurd) just felt like a long, dreary, session and just anxious for it to end. I LOVE Jackie Brown, but KB is just, well, not in this lifetime will I ever see this film. Some good action segments, but not enough to generate my interest. And, I do not consider it a classic.

This is a smart move by Tarantino. Both volumes of "Kill Bill" were great, but they'd be even better as one film. I too have been waiting for both volumes to be combined into one single DVD instead of buying each. The intermission is also a nice, old school idea and you'd need it for a movie this long.

I'll definitely see this in the theaters and buy the DVD.

Now, now. Tangan does not suck. He just has different tastes and loves the disappointing Jackie Brown. Yes, Kill Bill is not a classic (like Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction), but that doesn't stop it from being an enjoyable movie. If I hadn't seen vol. 1 + 2, I wouldn't see this long movie in theaters. However, since I have (and since I loved them) I might. That DVD will definitely be a must have for me.

Did you just say you didn't like a movie you haven't seen all of?

Vol 1 and Vol 2 collectivly make one movie. And since it's nonsequential, both of the begining and the end are in Vol 2.

Dude I know excatly where you're comming from. I watched Gjostbusters 2 the other day, having never seen Ghostbusters, and I really feltlet down. It's like right at the begining all these people had some sort of history Legal problems, financial problems, there was some sort of love story between two characters.... But none of it was explained. Screw Viggo. Show me where these guys came from and how they became "Ghostbusters". THATS the movie I want to see.

I agree, an intermission is the most genius thing anyone could ever have thought of, so it's obvious why Tarantino thought of it. I don't even care about the quality of the movie, as long as it has an intermission.

I don't know why I always have to be so sarcastic.

Schmintermission...
This intermission had better not be in the DVD, like it is in 2001, which doesn't even have its own chapter break (you have to fast forward to get past it! Warners IDIOTS). Regardless, why recreate that aspect of theatergoing in the DVD when you can just pause it for whatever?

Although... if the intermission is a pic of Quenty shagging Uma from behind, theeeeennnnnnn yeah leave it in the DVD.

Okay, so originally he was going to release this as one big movie. Then Harvey Scissorhands says, "No, it's too long." So, Tarantino decides to release this in two parts. In other words, charge us twice for one movie. Which is a brilliant move...for the filmmaker...and a ripoff for the movie-goer. Now, a couple years later, he wants to cram us back into the theaters to pay for it a third time. And people are calling him a genius? I'm calling him a con artist. You should be pissed not excited. I, too, have held off on buying the DVDs so I can buy the "Whole Bloody Affair" I've been hearing about for two years. This is getting ridiculous. Sorry to temper your enthusiasm, but this is just how I see it.

Ugh. Wow. I mean, I enjoyed the first two volumes. But if you're going to do something, Tarantino, why not just:

A)Add another sequel?
B)Write some other awesome books and make millions of them, then make millions through the cinematic adaptation?

But don't just make a summary of the first two.

The two films combined as one will make everyone see how good the one KILL BILL will really be. Like cmon, its like if they split up lor of the rings two towers... ok, it would be easier to watch but it would suck. Kill bill will rock a$$

Why re-release a pair of over-rated movies anyways? I think it would be a fairly small fan base that would be willing to go to the theatre three times for the same movie.
