A battle breaks out for the land and Lear learns the value of peace. This reworking of William Shakespeare's KING LEAR is set in a Western milieu with stunning Texas scenery. Using a post-Alamo setting, this adaptation surprisingly retains the complexity of Shakespeare's characters. Originally aired on cable, the film also features terrific supporting work from Roy Scheider. [More]

Reviews for King of Texas
Fine enough fare for Shakespeare junkies who aren’t too hard core about their history.
Juicy with familial betrayal, horse thievery, land grabbing, and illicit smooching...
Does not attain the catharsis of the great tragedy it uses as its model, but manages to deliver only melodrama.
