Intrepid British archaeologist Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) has made perhaps the most important archaeological discovery in history: an orb that leads to the mythical Pandora's Box. Unfortunately, the orb falls into the hands of Jonathan Reiss (Ciaran Hinds), an evil scientist who deals in killer viruses and hopes to sell the secrets of the box as the ultimate weapon. Recruited by British Intelligence to get the orb back from Reiss, Lara enlists Terry Sheridan (Gerard Butler), a British marine turned mercenary--and her former love interest--to help. The two embark on an adventure that spans continents in an attempt to regain the orb. Lara is a walking advertisement for "girl power." She's brilliant, athletic, courageous, and saucy. She flips jet skis, parachutes to safety from tall buildings, dives, rides horses--nothing seems beyond her. Best of all, Lara is one of the good ones--she'll do whatever she must to keep the world safe. Directed by Jan de Bont, this film was shot on location in Greece, Kenya, Hong Kong, England, and Wales. Sure, the movie blows but Jolie is the new James Dean, mysterious and the definition of cool.

This Lara Croft sequel really surprised me. It's the most exciting action/adventure flick I've seen since 'The Mummy.'

It’s not perfect (it’s a sequel after all), but the latest Lara Croft film is smart, sexy and great summer fun.

After a dramatically disappointing debut in 2001, this video-game character turned action film heroine bites back with an eye-catching and imaginative globe-trotting sequel.

The Cradle of Life is infinitely more fun and feral than its precursor, and it exudes an attitude worthy of the diva that rides it.

More Indiana Jones than James Bond, Lara Croft does better this time around with exotic locales and an almost down-to-earth story.

The Cradle of Life ain't Shakespeare and it doesn't reinvent the action-adventure in any profound way. On the other hand, it's a sleek, well-produced popcorn picture.

It's part travelogue and part James Bond caper, with a thrilling opening and a wonderfully weird finale. ... What's been sandwiched in between is mostly run-of-the-mill stuntwork and gunplay...
