Jolie remains more magazine cover than actress (or movie star), and the franchise she supports is more Nintendo after-school time killer than rousing adventure cycle.

Intrepid British archaeologist Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) has made perhaps the most important archaeological discovery in history: an orb that leads to the mythical Pandora's Box. Unfortunately, the orb falls into the hands of Jonathan Reiss (Ciaran Hinds), an evil scientist who deals in killer viruses and hopes to sell the secrets of the box as the ultimate weapon. Recruited by British Intelligence to get the orb back from Reiss, Lara enlists Terry Sheridan (Gerard Butler), a British marine turned mercenary--and her former love interest--to help. The two embark on an adventure that spans continents in an attempt to regain the orb. Lara is a walking advertisement for "girl power." She's brilliant, athletic, courageous, and saucy. She flips jet skis, parachutes to safety from tall buildings, dives, rides horses--nothing seems beyond her. Best of all, Lara is one of the good ones--she'll do whatever she must to keep the world safe. Directed by Jan de Bont, this film was shot on location in Greece, Kenya, Hong Kong, England, and Wales. Reviews for Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life
Is “Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life” worth it? No. If you’ve sent the first, you’ve seen the second.
Sure it’s hardcore dumb but its so amusing plundering this tomb that you won’t notice (or care) how well the makers raided your wallet.
The plot is coherent enough to hold our attention, and inventive enough to move credibly among all the exotic locations.
Sure, the movie blows but Jolie is the new James Dean, mysterious and the definition of cool.
It’s only when Angelina Jolie and Gerard Butler are up close and personal that you get the sense that anybody was really all that interested in making this film.
The film was directed by Jan de Bont, who now should be known as F.K. Jan de Bont; the abbreviation standing for Franchise Killer.
Bombastic it may be, but it's rarely boring, as was the first Tomb Raider. Keep your expectations in line with the source material and you may be pleasantly surprised.
If you have to watch a movie this miserable, it helps enormously to have Angelina Jolie as its eponymous lead.
While there are more moments with flair than in the original fiasco, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider -- The Cradle of Life remains a one-dimensional and suspiciously lifeless affair.
In the next "Lara Croft," she'll search for the weapons of mass destruction.
The first movie was so bad it was almost good; this one is almost good.
This Lara Croft sequel really surprised me. It's the most exciting action/adventure flick I've seen since 'The Mummy.'
It repeats the mistakes of the first film and compounds them with the cardinal sin of taking itself too seriously.
As is so often the case, robbers emptied this tomb of ideas long ago. But it does have a lovely facade.
