EL BESO DEL SUENO: Rafael Moreno Alba's stylish and suspenseful Spanish film stars Maribel Verdu as a streetwise con artist who gets in over her head when she steals a cash-filled suitcase and is forced to evade both a handsome police officer (Juan Diego) and a group of brutal criminals. HAZLO POR MI: Ineffectual businessman Andres (Carlos Hipólito) seeks an escape from his unhappy home life--but it turns deadly, in Spanish director Angel Fernandez Santos's debut feature. Trapped in a loveless marriage, Andres stays with his family for the sake of his son, David (José Velázquez). While in the process of taking over the family business from his stepfather, he encounters beautiful shop girl Isabel (Cayetana Guillen Cuervo), and is immediately drawn to her. He begins an affair with her, and becomes obsessed with his new lover after she is assaulted and her apartment destroyed. Isabel, however, has other loyalties: her boyfriend Paco (Nancho Novo), a vicious drug dealer, is currently in jail, and the pair need money desperately. Isabel, in classic femme fatale mode, suggests to her susceptible paramour that together they kidnap Andres's own son. A low-budget endeavor, HAZLO POR MI succeeds on every count, with finely-drawn characters and gripping, well-paced action. FLORES DE OTRO MUNDO: Three couples deal with the challenges of family, culture, love, and the enduring hope for a better life in this touching Spanish drama. When three single, middle-aged farmers in a tiny village host a singles' party in order to find wives, the women who attend are mostly immigrants looking for a marriage that will improve their lot. They pair off, with Patricia facing a monstrous mother-in-law, Milady aching to escape the small town and see the world, and Marirosi carrying out a long-distance relationship. [More]
