Sean Connery stars as Allan Quatermain, the world's greatest adventurer, who leads a legion of superheroes the likes of which the world has never seen, in THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN. Quatermain's extraordinary League is comprised of Captain Nemo (Naseeruddin Shah), Dracula vampiress Mina Harker (Peta Wilson), an invisible man Rodney Skinner (Tony Curran), American secret service agent Sawyer (Shane West), Dorian Gray (Stuart Townsend), and Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde (Jason Flemyng). Richard Roxburgh ("Moulin Rouge") plays the League's enigmatic recruiter, M. The League members are staunch individualists, outcasts in fact, with checkered pasts and singular gifts that have been both blessing and curse. Now they must learn to trust each other and work as a team for the very hope of civilization. With little preparation and no time to lose, they will be transported via Captain Nemo's extraordinary submarine, the Nautilus, to the frontline of defense: Venice, Italy. There, a masked madman known as the Fantom plans to sabotage a conference of world leaders by setting off a domino chain of explosions, sinking the entire city. The threat is catastrophic, the risks are staggering. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen has 9 hours to save the world. Based on the acclaimed comic books by Alan Moore ("From Hell") and Kevin O'Neill, the film is directed by Stephen Norrington ("Blade") from a screenplay by James Dale Robinson. Don Murphy ("From Hell", "Natural Born Killers") and Trevor Albert ("Groundhog Day", "Bedazzled") are the producers, and Sean Connery and Mark Gordon ("Saving Private Ryan") are executive producers. The co-producer is Michael Nelson. Principal photography on the 20-week shoot occurred almost entirely in Prague, with additional shooting in Malta and Los Angeles. [More]

Reviews for The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Robinson and Norrington approach literature like lazy high schoolers in an English class, using the material when it suits them and ignoring it when it doesn't.
Some might say that this is a mindless summer action film and it’s just for fun, and they would be mostly right, except for the fact that it’s not very much fun.
Takes a very promising idea and executes its so poorly that all of the joy is drained completely away.
When not even Sean Connery in a role tailor-made for him can spark a movie into life, you know something's gone terribly wrong.
Strands its characters in a series of elaborate but by-the-numbers action sequences that prove short on brain power and long on blasting powder.
'A welter of shoddy action setpieces and infuriatingly patronising dialogue.'
Destined to go down in the history books as the Heaven's Gate of superhero flicks, this is nothing more and nothing less than an extraordinary waste of time and money.
. As a more popular 19th-century author, Robert Frost, said: "Poetry is what is lost in translation." They've certainly lost it here. .
Let’s end the suspense, shall we? This Sean Connery vehicle is not the summer blockbuster we hoped for.
'Tiene varios defectos pero se puede disfrutar como cualquier matinée dominguera. Esa es su función y la cumple correctamente. No le pida más'.
Quem não leu o trabalho de Moore e O’Neill vai gostar do filme? Acredito que não, já que o péssimo roteiro, que se transforma em uma verdadeira bagunça a partir da metade da projeção, jamais consegue tornar a trama envolvente – ou mesmo lógica.
It isn’t just a knock off of the last franchise event movie you’ve seen, it’s every franchise event movie you’ve ever seen.
The premise of teaming up famous, disparate characters of classic fiction is a lot more intriguing than what ended up as the finished cinematic product.
The more you think about the film, the more it falls to pieces. It's riddled with logistical and continuity errors that keep the audience continually uttering 'Huh?'
