NOW Mel Wants to Do Another "Lethal Weapon"?
by Scott Weinberg | August 07, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

In a move that might be dismissed as "PR B.S." by many, Mel Gibson (allegedly) wants to head back to Riggsville and star in "Lethal Weapon 5" -- despite his long-standing refusal to climb back into that particular character. Back to Article

Unless zombie Jet Li comes back from the dead, beats the living shyt out of Riggs and the rest of the cast regulars and then proceeds to devour their entrails onscreen, I'll take a pass.

If they do it good, why not? I enjoyed all of the Lethal Weapon movies, so I figure, if there's a good script there, why the hell not?

As for his career. I definitely believe that he can bounce back from this. It was obvious that Apocalypto wouldn't do well at the box office, but this whole situation can pretty much guarantee low box office...Whatever movie he does after that will more than likely do well. Gibson is charismatic, likable, and most importantly, a good actor. Whatever his next project is, I have confidence that it will do well.

Amazing that people actually care about the things he says. He's an actor, not the president of a country. He was drunk, tired and annoyed and he said something stupid. We all do that from time to time. Take his licence away for a year for drunk driving, give him a fine and leave it at that. Let the guy make movies and judge him on that.

Told u so
When I protested against the support given to Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ for it's obvious discourtesy to history truth (Jim Caviesel isn't dark skinned or Jewish for that matter is he?) and Roman Catholic biasedness (Pontious Pilate, wiped the Romans' clean of Jesus' death...PLEASE!!!! He was a criminal himself) people agree but alllllloooot of people had sum rather disparaging remarks to say about me in ol' Mel's defense....Now I've never been the type of cat that throws things in people's face when my point is in fact proven to true...but because of the severity of this situation i hafta say it...just like T.I. on his LP King, I TOLD U SO.....

Are you new to the internet?

Hi grandpa, that's what the internet is all about. That and porn. Go watch Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. It'll explain it all to you.

Oh, I totally agree.

I was one of those people saying that the Passion was anti-Jewish (guess what depictions of Christ getting crucified often incited violence to in the medieval ages) but I got A LOT of crap from people defending Mel Gibson at the time. All I can say now is, I WAS FREAKING RIGHT THE WHOLE TIME YOU IGNORANT BASTARDS!

Sorry, that was unnecessary, but still... you wouldn't believe the crap I got from people for saying good ol' Mel was anti-semetic. Tables are turned, and all of a sudden it's, "well... let's just drop this dude..." I will, but I want to rub it in a bit more.

Say no to Lethal Weapon 5 and say yes to Mad Max 4
There should never be a Lethal Weapon 5. It's just a bad idea. If anything, there should be a Mad Max 4. That's the real topic that should be under discussion. Besides, if there was a Lethal Weapon 5, wouldn't Danny Glover's character be close to 65 years old or something. In the first movie, he turned 50. Almost ten years later, the third movie comes out, where he should be in his late 50's. Then #4 comes out and he should be around 60 years old.
Anyway, the whole idea is just a ploy on Mel's part to divert attention away from his sloppy behavior and onto an "exciting" upcoming project. Although I am looking forward to "Apocalypto".

Really, unless you're Jewish, should you really be THAT upset that Mel told someone his opinion? Who cares? Most of you a$$holes are bigots too, in one way or another. The guy was in a drunken stupor and told someone his opinion on a matter that's a bit touchy to most people, but actually has some fact behind it. Even my JEWISH WIFE somewhat agrees with him. Look at the bulls*#t that's gone on in Israel for the past few thousand years. Do you people know how many mass conflicts have spawned from that region? YES he's out of line for accusing and threatening a Jewish cop in Malibu, but the guy has every God-given right to speak his mind about whomever he pleases. And guess what, he doesn't hate Jews. I don't hate Latinos, but I can still blame them for intruding into my country and causing miscommunication everywhere I go in L.A. by refusing to speak english. I don't hate black people, but I can still blame them for drawing a thick, black line in the sand and creating their own separate culture as to cut off most white people from bonding with them. Of course, I speak loosely, of course, because not every Latino or black person contributes to these problems. But I refuse to give up my opinion because of conforming white guilt. And neither should Mel Gibson.

Oh, and by the way, Walt Disney was a true anti-semite, and look at his never-ending legacy.

But her tits were rather sugary, he was spot on in that department. As for the anti-semetic thing, meh, everyone I've ever met it a bigot someway or another. He's just honest about how he feels.
I'd see Lethal Weapon 5, I don't care. Don't like Tom Cruise but I like alot of his movies. Who gives a sh!+ about any actors political views if the film is good?

I don't feel that an actor's political views are of great import, but I don't want to knowingly support a bigot such as Mr. Gibson. Political views and racism are two different things. Even if many people hold prejudicial attitudes it does not make such an attitude acceptable either. To attend one of his films is to condone his anti-semitic behavior.

No, to go to an anti-semetic rally and donate money to his cause would be to condone/support his behaviors. And last time I checked, Mel wasn't sending money to Palastinian soldiers to help with their war with Israel. It seems to me that alot of rappers have a low opinion of white people but people still buy their albums. Same thing. Frankly, unless his movie is titled F@#$ the Jews and all the proceeds are going to an anti-semetic organization, I wouldn't care what his views on anything were. After all, he's not a real person, he's a hollywood person

While attending an anti-semitic rally is obviously a more direct form of support, paying to attend a film starring a known bigot indirectly supports the views of that individual. It tells the individual that it's okay to continue thinking in such an archaic manner; America will still allow you to live a luxurious and hateful life. In reality, none of us know where Mr. Gibson's money goes. The fact that he's a celebrity only increases the importance of the matter. It means that the outcome of this debacle will be seen by many people.

Gimme Riggs and Murtaugh anyday! I'll take them over hobbits, wizards, and recycled old TV show characters in a heartbeat.
