NOW Mel Wants to Do Another "Lethal Weapon"?
In a move that might be dismissed as "PR B.S." by many, Mel Gibson (allegedly) wants to head back to Riggsville and star in "Lethal Weapon 5" -- despite his long-standing refusal to climb back into that particular character.
As we touched on in last Friday's News Ketchup, Gibson's recent public meltdown is rumored to be the catalyst for him even considering doing another "Lethal Weapon."
From Dark Horizons: "The 'clean up Mel Gibson's image' roadshow continues this week with a report in The Daily Telegraph citing that Malibu's favourite detainee is believed to be in discussions to join a revival of the "Lethal Weapon" film franchise.
The paper's Sydney Confidential section cites industry insiders suggesting he is set to jump on board for "Lethal Weapon 5", which would be the final instalment of the franchise - "It wouldn't hurt on the PR front to give fans another Lethal Weapon" one source said."

So movie fans, my question is this: Do you have any interest in seeing Mel Gibson star in yet another "Lethal Weapon" flick, or has this particular boat sailed out of the actor's career forever?

aconline writes: on Aug 07 2006 09:26 AM Well, I agree with spinoir on a few points. The first 2 Lethal Weapons were good. Thery were dark, they dealt with Riggs mind. After 3, which gave us Joe Pesci and Rene Russo, I didnt even see 4 until cable. Three became goofy, funny, and not the same. But I liked 4. It went back to some darkness. This where I disagree with spinoir. I think Rene "fixed" Riggs. That the purpose of her character. It would be interesting to see what they do with Chris Rock and the 2 babies. I am hoping for a Sugar T*ts remark, especially if he calls Rene that. As for the plot, good luck. I might be game to see it. (Reply to this) |

Boss Fan writes: on Aug 07 2006 01:15 PM It could be done right This is a risky proposition - and an easy thing to make fun of and hate on in forums like these. But with the reassuring article in USA Today about another movie franchise to be resurrected that I was skeptical about at first - Die Hard - I believe with the right creative team there is hope. Even with the lulls in 3 and 4, the "Lethal Weapon" movies were my favorite growing up and if I had to pick, might be my overall favorite action film franchise ever, in terms of just the most fun to watch and pure talkin' shit action entertainment value. There have been bigger action movies since, but the LWs were all about characters and character chemistry and low-fi but high class action and chase scenes. With a fraction of, say, Michael Bay's (AND NO DISS INTENDED HERE, JUST MAKING A POINT) budget, Richard Donner is such an action craftsman that he could make his action and car chases just as exciting and jaw-droppingly choreographed. Despite its (somewhat deserved) bad rep, for sheer entertainment, just to pop in the DVD for a great couple action sequences, you really can't beat LW 4 So bring back Donner, bring back the cast, bring back the action style of #4, and bring back the hard edge of the first two, and that popped to life here and there in the last two, but make it front and center here, and then I say, go ahead and bring back this franchise. I'd be fine with no Leo... Die Hard 4 sounds almost like a "24"-type plot/action adventure: from the USA TODAY article: "Our villain is high tech, but the way McClane deals with him is low-tech," Wiseman says. "A fistfight still solves a lot of problems." Wiseman says the fourth outing "will be a more epic movie. It's on a much grander scale. The threat is nationwide." He said none of the characters from the earlier movies were returning, and no other cast members were being announced yet.” That sounds like a great way to approach that movie and a similar overhaul of LW could also make for a fitting finale. I say, if they do it, do it right and I’m good. Lets not get carried away though: This is the kind of rumor that always seems to be followed by the star going, "What? No." Mel was supposed to do another Mad Max years ago. That never happened either. (Reply to this) |
