Mel Gibson Nixes "Mad Max" and "Lethal Weapon" Returns
by Scott Weinberg | October 31, 2006
Discuss Article
In a move that surprises absolutely no one and relieves quite a few, Mel Gibson has announced that he's officially staying away from any and all sequels to "Lethal Weapon" and "Mad Max" -- as if people still have a huge, burning desire to see the guy do action scenes at this point in his career and with all things considered.

From Dark Horizons and IESB.net: "In regards to Max - "They were talking about making one, I think you just watched it [referring to Apocalypto] (laughter) but, you know, I don't know. I'm gettin' a little long in the tooth for that one"

As for Weapon - "Oh no, I don't want to go there again...oh boy was that done to death. I just want to do things that really give me a kick".

to see what Mel does have on the back burner at this point.

as a Mel fan myself, I am glad to hear this.

he's got Under and Alone.. and Sam and George he's been toying with for some time. I prefer he do both of those!

He was already looking a little too old for action films in "Lethal Weapon 4". I'm glad he's being smart and not doing anymore action flicks.

Gisbon will have an acting career for as long as he wants to have one.

If Mel were to play the lead in "Passion of the Christ: 2" could he technically forgive himself or does he have to go higher? Does God trump Jesus when it comes to forgiveness or does it all just come out in the wash?

If he chooses to act again, he needs to do it in a small role and really show his acting chops. give it time before he headlines another movie.

Personally, I think he should rot in hell...

He may have to renege on that promise when Apocalypto bombs.

He could still do a sequel to Air America.

I thought the Mad Max sequel was a definite, so I guess I'm the one this surprised. Wasn't this supposed to be called "Fury Road" or something like that? I think Max could have still worked, but I agree the Lethal Weapon thing had pretty much run its course (though I did like all 4 movies).

"rude, dumb, stupid..." You really shouldn't talk about yourself like that. Check your local listing for Dr. Phil. I bet he could help you with that drinking problem you have...

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!
How long can the Jews pass off the Holocaust as an excuse to murder innocent children in other countries in the name of self defense? What a load of BS! Yes the Holocaust was a terrible tragedy, no one denies that but it's now time for the Jewish nation to move on and stop using the Holocaust as an excuse to commit their own crimes within the Arab world. Mention the word Jew and the whole world has to walk around on eggshells.

Act responsibly and the suffering on both sides will stop. Just because I said this, don’t give me the BS that I hate Jewish people because, nothing can be further from the truth, In fact I admire them for what they’ve had to go through, but I no longer respect them on account of their own atrocities. I’m just saying what a lot of people are thinking and it would be foolish to deny that.

HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!
Morons on both sides of an issue that has nothing to do with entertainment making moronic political statements. It's time for everyone to simply stick to the issues and stop using Rotten Tomatoes as a vehicle for their own political agendas. If you don't like Mel Gibson for what he said, then don't and the same goes for anyone who tries to use Gibson as a weapon against the Jews. Keep your political remarks to yourselves and let the rest of us use the forum for its intent; to discuss entertainment!!

Political statements can be a lot more fun to read than whether or not they are going to make a sequel to Time Bandits. I say let people say what they want

I'm dissappointed
Man, I'm a huge Road Warrior fan. I was really hoping he would do something dark and brutal, though not like "beyond thunderdome". I thought that one was a little bit out there.Oh well. I personally don't think he's too old for it. I think it he would be a good older road warrior, though not as cool (obviously) as the younger warrior.
