Consensus: Though Jolie is appealing, Life or Something Like It is too contrived and predictable to convincingly convey its message of stopping to smell the roses.

She is also engaged to a Seattle Mariners star (Christian Kane). To top off her perfect life, her boss recommends her for a dream job, a network position in New York City. In order to increase her chances, he sends her to do field work with the renowned but difficult cameraman, Pete (Edward Burns). when she's on an assignment, Lanie runs into a homeless man, the prophet Jack (Tony Shalhoub), who makes three predictions: that the Seattle Seahawks will beat the Denver Broncos 19-13, that it will hail the following day, and that she'll be dead by next Thursday. When the first two predictions come true, Lanie reevaluates her life and realizes she's missing out on the smaller things because of her ambition. Jolie is sexy, adorable, and whimsical in her first comedy role. The sizzling banter between Burns and Jolie recalls Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant in HIS GIRL FRIDAY. LIFE OR SOMETHING LIKE IT is a lovely departure for director Steven Herek (ROCK STAR, BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE). [More]

What begins as a somewhat predictable Hollywood romantic comedy, spirals into a tender, sweet love story and opens the door to life’s deeper and more meaningful issues.

Jolie's cute and charming love interest Edward Burns is likable and has cool hair, and that's enough to make you root for the good guy (and gal) and gloss over the film's inadequacies.

While the finished product is not without merit it’s difficult to erase the bitter taste of squandered opportunities.

The biggest revelation is that Angelina Jolie looks pretty hot when she's dolled up with big blonde hair.

Although Life or Something Like It is very much in the mold of feel-good movies, the cast and director Stephen Herek's polished direction pour delightfully piquant wine from aged bottles.

I wanted a great movie or something like that (and didn't quite get it). But if you're looking for a movie to watch on a rainy day when you want to skip work and stay home in bed with someone you love, it's not bad.

Despite the film's decided thinness, there's still a kernel of something here -- a sweetness and vitality that peeks through.

This is Angelina Jolie's movie all the way, and she does not disappoint.

Jolie gives it that extra little something that makes it worth checking out at theaters, especially if you're in the mood for something more comfortable than challenging.

Slightly above-average, somewhat dawdly and meandering romantic comedy. Angelina Jolie is at her most tolerable.

What's so striking about Jolie's performance is that she never lets her character become a caricature -- not even with that radioactive hair.

...Clearly displays the workmanlike instincts of its creative team, instincts which neither inspire greatness nor fail altogether.

Life wouldn't have worked nearly as well as it did without Jolie, and I'm not sure too many other actresses could have carried this film.

...there is enough originality in 'Life' to distance it from the pack of paint-by-number romantic comedies that so often end up on cinema screens.
