Guillermo del Toro Resurrecting The Champions
Superpowered British spies of the '60s coming to the screen.
What do Tom Cruise, Guillermo del Toro, and Stuart Damon (a.k.a. General Hospital's Dr. Alan Quartermaine) have in common?
According to Variety, Cruise's United Artists has optioned the rights to The Champions -- the British TV series that starred Damon, Alexandra Bastedo, and William Gaunt -- and tapped Del Toro to write, direct, and produce a feature-length adaptation. From the article:
Based on the 1968-69 British TV series, "Champions" will follow the adventures of a team of secret government agents who are rescued from a plane crash by an advanced civilization and given superhuman abilities.
Created by Monty Berman and Dennis Spooner, the original series...mixed adventure, humor and glamour into its plotlines.
Really, who among us couldn't do with a little more adventure, humor, and/or glamor? Sounds like it'll be even more fun than Lions for Lambs!

Heath H. writes: on Nov 08 2007 08:54 AM Can't say I'm interested in seeing Guillermo del Toro do this one. What happened to 'At the Mountains of Madness'? The premise of 'The Champions' doesn't quite sound Guillermo-like either. Still, I can't wait to 'Hellboy 2', here's much love for Guillermo no matter what he chooses to do! (Reply to this) |

TrisTan2007 writes: on Nov 08 2007 01:02 PM Tom Cruise, Del Toro? ummm. already sounds interesting. Can't wait for Hellboy 2 either. First one was quite a fun -- and Del Toro, please don't save Spiderman. Let Sam Raimi save it. Hopefully he has learnt a lesson with the 3rd installment of the Spiderman. He almost drowned the Spiderman, let the man pull it off. As far as he comes off with something as good as Spiderman II, I am happy. BTW, who's gonna save Superman? I was pretty disappointed with the first installment. (Reply to this) |
