Jackson Sues New Line for Some of That Missing "Rings" Booty
The Hollywood Reporter fills us in on a little bad blood between filmmaker Peter Jackson and his "Lord of the Rings" studio, New Line Cinema. Seems that not all the accounting ledgers match up when you look closely at the the first chapter's profit margin. The suit also claims that New Line gave some of its affiliates "favorable" treatment in relation to certain licensing contracts. Check out THR for the full scoop ... and try not to think about how this lawsuit with affect the possibility of a "Hobbit" movie happening any time soon.

The executives have huge, expensive lunches and parties and rent expensive cars for no reason and stay in expensive hotels for no reason and bill it all to whatever film it being worked on at the time, even though none of what they're doing is in any way related to the film. I can just imagine how much of that crap was billed to the LOTR films that wasn't even relevant to those films. The EVP of Home Video probably bought a personal jet and charged it to Peter Jackson without him knowing about it. (Reply to this) |

icekweem writes: on Mar 06 2005 12:36 AM i believe it... that's horrible. New Line is great on DVD releases, especially recently (Harold and Kumar's unrated cut, LotR), and i liked em for that, but all this new info kinda casts a shadow over their 'dedication' to DVDs (still, DVDs are DVDs, regardless of who releases them). and they're really raking it in from LotR. and we know PJ isn't alone; Saul Zaentz sued them earlier last year for his share of LotR profits as well...
