Consensus: A throw back to earlier films like Strictly Ballroom, Mambo is a competent but ultimately dull film.

He falls in love with his teacher, 18-year-old Lucy McLoughlin (Keri Russell), who is determined to win a local Latin dancing competition. Though Danny and Lucy are from different sides of the tracks and Lucy's bossy boyfriend seems to get in the way, their connection on the dance floor breaks down all barriers. [More]

Boy falls for girl who wants to win dance contest. He learns all the steps, the girl becomes enamored of him, and . . . Well, you know. You've been there time and time again.

It's a sweet, funny story, and the choreography is mildly interesting, but we've seen this dance before.
Mad About Mambo's steps may be as familiar as the hokeypokey, but there's just enough gusto in the execution to make it a guilty pleasure.
Ash and Russell ... generate just enough tension to keep the audience interested.
But Ash is a charmer, and Russell (whose Irish accent is passable) flings around her fondly remembered mane with flirtatious gusto.
Nothing more than an ultra-formulaic Hollywood romantic fantasy grafted onto Belfast.
