When a cockroach-spread plague threatens to decimate the child population of New York City, evolutionary biologist Susan Tyler and her research associates rig up a species of "Judas" bugs and introduce them into the environment, where they will "mimic" the diseased roaches and infiltrate their grubby habitats. So far so good...until the bugs keep on evolving and learn to mimic their next prey--humans. Noirish, dazzling production work ensconces reliably creepy bug-related thrills. Based on the short story by Donald A. Wolheim. [More]

Reviews for Mimic
Del Toro does not make Tyler a symbol of science gone out of control or of science for greed, instead he makes her a scientist who in doing good has created a monster and has to live with that guilt.
Del Toro consegue criar alguns bons momentos de tensão e o filme conta com um design de produção bastante acima da média para exemplares do gênero. Ainda assim, a história óbvia, típica de uma produção B, resulta em um longa descartável.
It looks scary, but it doesn't feel scary. The elements are in place, but they're too familiar. Surprise is gone.
Followed its terrific first half with a descent into horror movie formulaic crap.
