Frank Darabont Has Another King Flick in Him?
by Scott Weinberg | August 01, 2007
Discuss Article
Summary

Frank Darabont is two-for-two when it comes to Stephen King adaptations (The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile). His third one, The Mist, looks pretty darn creepy so far -- so what's next? Any of you King fanatics remember the fantastic story The Long Walk? Back to Article

I always preferred King's books written as Bachman. The Long Walk is Battle Royale in a marathon setting. I still can't figure out the ending after reading it several times.

Can't wait for the Mist. I'll be hoping F451 and the long walk happen and soon.

Fantastic! The Green Mile and Shawshank aren't just fantastic King adaptations but two of the best movies ever made. I LOVE the Mist so I can't wait to see what Frank will do. It'll be nice to see a horror movie made well. I haven't read the Long Walk yet but I'm sure he'll do great on it as well.

I would like to see Darabont tackle The Gunslinger, faithful to King's vision.

This is my favorite King Book (I've read them all). I can't wait. Couldn't ask for a better director!!

I was pumped for The Mist. This announcement just put me over the edge. TLW is my favorite book of Bachman's and I've always wanted to write a script for it. It should be good.

I love The Long Walk! I can't beleive it's taken this long to turn it into a movie. King and Darabont go together like Macaraoni and cheese so the wait will be worth it.

I've always had this vision of what the poor kid who can't keep up with the others getting executed looks like; now I'm looking forward to seeing how close this vision is on the big screen. If you haven't read The Long Walk, then by all means do so, classic King!

Darabount certainly has found his niche in King novellas. But didnt he also direct the contrived DREAMCATCHER; certainly a low point for both parties. Darabount somehow manages to bring Kings sensibility and tone to the screen. Hopefully he'll choosed to revamp IT after LONG HIGHWAY.

I believe it was Laurence Kasdan who directed Crapcatcher, so Darabont remains flawless in King adaptations. Darabont is a fantastic director, even outside of Stephen King territory (his direction in The Majestic is damn near beautiful). Can't wait.

Effing Awesome!

'The Long Walk' is one of my favorite books of the Bachman series.

Then maybe... You know maybe, he can remake 'The Running Man' and not have it suck... And have Ahnold.

The Long Walk and the Mist are two of my favorite novella's. Glad to hear their in good hands.

I've alwaays wished for a decent Running Man adaptaion also. It was blasphemy to put that title on the first movie.

I seem to remember The Running Man being pretty awesome. And what is wrong with Dreamcatcher? I liked it.

Have you read the story? It could have been much better if they made a movie from the plot of the book instead of taking the title and making soemthing completely different.

The Running Man wasn't completely different, they just, er... enhanced it. Exaggerated it. Whatever. It was not a bad movie taken on its own merits.

I think I liked The Long Walk more than any of the other Bachman stories: Running Man, Rage, Roadwork, The Regulators, Thinner, and Blaze.

I really liked Blaze though. It's probably my second favorite Bachman behind TLW.

That movie was horrible; never read the novel but the writing in the movie sucked, the acting sucked, the plot sucked even more, well maybe not as much. I cant believe morgan freeman was in it.

Top three King works that should be movies:

1. Eyes of the Dragon - this fantastic story screams movie, I cannot believe it hasn't been done yet.

2. The Long Walk - yes!

3. The Dark Tower saga - not sure if it can be done, would require a trilogy and a LOT of cutting.

Dreamcatcher was a pretty awful book (this coming from a big King fan) so I am not going to fault the director too much. How exactly do movies like Dreamcatcher and Secret Window get made before the above three?!

I do love this story, but I don't think it's in the future. I think it's a alternate dimension in which the Nazis won world war 2. Great Story. Doesn't need a back story but maybe some flashbacks. I think a back story would ruin the jolt of what actually happens on the road.
