RT Critical Consensus: "Sky High" Soars, "Stealth" Crashes, and Diane Lane and John Cusack Go Dateless
Summary
The willing suspension of disbelief is often essential to the moviegoing experience. This week's wide releases provide no such relief. We will be asked to believe that a fighter plane develops its own intelligence (and downloads mp3s -- most likely by such bands as Jet and U2). We will be asked to believe any kid with superpowers would have a rough time in high school. And -- perhaps the greatest stretch -- we are asked to believe that there would be a moment in history in which both Diane Lane and John Cusack would be dateless. Madman writes: on Jul 29 2005 06:42 PM This seems like the third or fourth movie in a row where movies are looking pretty fresh and then get slammed by about 20 negative reviews in a row on the day of the release (as with sky high now sitting at 59% rotten). This also happened with The Devil's Rejects last week and The Island as well (althiough The Island wasn't quite as last minute). Odd. Madman (Reply to this) |

flashbackfl writes: on Jul 31 2005 03:48 PM Great Movie Well, I haven't seen Stealth or Must Love Dogs, and quite frankly I have no desire to see Stealth. Must Love Dogs isn't a must on my list, but I do want to see it on DVD. However, I did go see Sky High with two teenage boys on Friday and was totally surprised. What a great movie! Yes, you have to suspend your disbelief as was written in the article, but once you do, get ready for two hours of fun :) It reminded me of a John Hughes 80's teen movie, but with a sci-fi twist....heck it even has an 80's soundtrack. I was totally absorbed in this movie and really didn't want it to end. Unless your a real sourpuss who is always serious I recommend this movie for all ages. (Reply to this) |
