It's love at first sight for the starry eyed couple and a quick trip to the American embassy for the wedding. The hard part comes, however, when the newlyweds try to head back to the States. Sutherland's wife is held captive in her own country by the Communists and the dashing and resourceful newspaperman must use his wits and daring to get her out. Released in 1953, NEVER LET ME GO is an intelligent film. Like WHITE NIGHTS, it documents a time when the U.S.S.R. forbade passage to its citizens. Complemented with the gliding music of Hans May, its ballet sequences are dizzying and beautiful. While NEVER LET ME GO is the perfect film for a rainy night date, it also holds strong in a history classroom. [More]
