Writer/Director Walkow transposes Dostoevsky's 19th century novella to present day Los Angeles, with Henry Czerny (CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER) giving an intense performance as the narrator, Underground Man. Haunted by his failures and shortcomings, he keeps an angry, hateful video diary in which he frankly discusses his disappointing life and all that is wrong in society. His bitterness is later the impetus for a darkly comic dinner party he attends with some more successful college friends which culminates in an a trip to a brothel where he mentally abuses a young prostitute (Cheryl Lee).
