Soderbergh Emotional Over "Oceans Thirteen"
by Fred Topel | December 12, 2006

George Clooney told us that "Ocean's Thirteen" would be all about revenge, but director Steven Soderbergh revealed a more sentimental side. While finishing principal photography on the third heist caper, Soderbergh began to feel nostalgic.

"It was kind of sad to near the end of it basically go, 'Well, this is the last time I'm going to see these people in a room,'" said Soderbergh. "I really like them all and they all like each other. There was a very strong sense of we were really lucky that these movies came about, that we got to do them and this is it."

For the typically anti-establishment director, Ocean's Thirteen also marked the end of an era. "At the end of it, there was a real sense of passage and wondering, for me, I wonder if I'll ever find another commercial movie to make. But also, just those people. I won't be hanging out with those people anymore."

Of course, Thirteen doesn't have to be the last. "Yeah, it does," Soderbergh groaned, before joking, "You could do their kids."

Yes, because the only way to have the same actors in another cast is to make sequel after droll sequel. It's a rule, after the first film is made those people are never allowed to star in another movie together. Idiot.

I love this series. I love Soderbergh and all his crazy antics and all the things he steals from the French New Wave. I know I'm the minority when it comes to the Ocean's franchise but I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'll miss it too.
