One of the most despised motion pictures, not just among Steven Seagal's works, but also in entire movie history.

Action hero Steven Seagal makes his directorial debut with this ecologically-sensitive thriller set in the wilds of Alaska. When maverick firefighter Forrest Taft discovers that his employer, Aegis Oil Company, is doing nasty things to the environment, he joins forces with the local Inuit tribe to save their land. Regarded by the Inuits as a warrior messiah, Taft is, in fact, an ex-CIA operative who has squirreled away enough weapons to liquidate a small country. He's a man of honor, of course, who kills only out of necessity -- and Aegis' corporate goons provide him with plenty of reasons to pull the trigger. [More]

Reviews for On Deadly Ground
Certain things must be answered, like Seagal's environmental lip service that is utterly mocked by the movie's need to blow things up and destroy property.
The less said about Joan Chen, the better. To say that her talents are wasted is to understate the matter.
A vanity project in the strongest sense of the term, this film has it all: bad acting, bad writing, bad direction, bad action sequences.
Martial arts maven Seagal has long been on deadly ground with critics, and this, his directorial debut, is likely to keep him there.
Seagal's character -- whose name is Forrest! -- blows up so much of the Alaskan ecology, one wonders why he's so concerned about oil spills.
You can't preach about preserving the environment and make movies full of sludge.
In the end, you want a good movie with message about ecology and how to preserve human nature? Forget it; go to a Green peace conference.
I mean, if you do rent it, and I don't reccomend you do, make sure you just skip the last 10 minutes.
The ultimate problem with any Steven Seagal project is that it must inevitably star Steven Seagal.
As a performer, Seagal is singularly lacking in grace and charisma. As a director, he more than lives up to his ham-fisted acting.
In contrast to his short, sharp fighting style, Seagal's presentation of the human conflicts and underlying issues consists of vague, sweeping gestures.
