But, with the arrival of a straight-laced, high-tech archaeologist, ERIC (Matthew Modine) everything could forever change. Eric soon finds himself swept into a world of picture-postcard scenery and romance. That is, until his satellite-guided equipment reveals that his most important find may be buried under the taverna owned by the object of his affection – the beautiful and uncompromising KATERINA (Agni Scott). Will Eric toss away a lifetime of work – and the hope of fulfilling his father’s deepest wish – for the love of a vivacious and independent woman? It will take all her passion and all his courage to find out where the real treasure is buried.

Cinedigm presents a modern day treasure hunt for a mystical relic that turns into a love story for all time. --© Official Site

...a moderately enjoyable movie that plays like an extended commercial for a vacation on the Greek island of Patmos.

As standard uptight-American-unbuttons-himself-abroad movies go, director Udayan Prasad's gentle, unexceptional romance is exactly what you'd expect.

Everything is flat except for the island's picturesque mountains, but you can look at those for only so long.

Opa!, a sweet, nontaxing movie set in the gorgeous Greek Isles, has a bit of a black hole at its center named Matthew Modine.

An amiable if easily forgotten story of middle-age romance set amid the sun-splashed Greek Islands.

The water is blue, the women are beautiful, the guys are hunky and the ouzo flows without end. So do the clichés.

[Modine] seems too tentative and blase to work as the film's lead. Especially since he's paired with the vibrant Scott. She definitely deserves a chance to work again, with someone as committed to film chemistry as she clearly was.

Your reviewer did correctly guess just about everything that transpired in Opa!, the only surprise being that the climactic finale hinges on a PowerPoint presentation. It’s as romantic as it sounds.

My Big Fat Greek Travelogue would be a more suitable title for this stock romantic comedy that might as well have been directed by the Hellenic tourist board.
