Bond 22 Details, Casting Rumors, and Controversy!
So a British spy, an Italian racehorse, and a Bollywood actress walk into a bar...

It wouldn't be a Bond movie without controversy, and despite the fact that it's still waiting for an official title, Bond 22 has just stirred up the inevitable first round of complaints -- and this time around, they don't have anything to do with the star's supposed deficiencies: IGN Movies and The Times are reporting that the film's planned climactic action sequence has raised the ire of animal rights organizations.

But first things first. In the IGN article, Daniel Craig divulges a tiny smidge of information regarding 22's plot, telling the Chicago Sun-Times:

"Well, I think that we've set up an idea now that there's an organization out there. He also has to deal with revenge because he has lost the girl [Casino Royale's Vesper Lynd]."

Bond's thirst for revenge apparently takes him to Tuscany, where he dukes it out with the bad guys during the Palio, a centuries-old bareback horse race that has fallen under intense criticism for the way its equine participants are treated. The sequence, which is to be filmed this week, will take place during this year's actual Palio, and although the filmmakers have agreed to a list of conditions -- including a ban on showing any race-related violence -- a number of organizations are annoyed with what's being seen as a glorification of a tradition which has killed 50 horses (and injured many more) in the last 37 years. According to the article in The Times:

Three years ago animal welfare activists called for it to be banned when an eight-year-old chestnut bay died of a broken neck after it collided with another horse on the notorious San Martino bend. Television viewers witnessed the horse being dragged away by its hind legs.

Margherita D'Amico, an animal rights campaigner, said the race was barbaric. "I have nothing against traditions but some are outdated. There was a time when young men were castrated to preserve their soprano voices -- but we don't do that any more," she said.

An excellent point, Ms. D'Amico. (You can uncross your legs now, gentlemen.)

In happier news, Metro is reporting that Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty "has been described as the 'perfect leading lady'" for Bond 22; the article goes on to claim that a deal is imminent between Shilpa and the film's producers, who are described as desperate for a star who "sells out cinemas across Asia." (That's her in the picture below. On the left, in case you were wondering.)

Obviously people don't matter anymore, since animals (not even endangered species) are well taken care of...shame people, shame...get over with your lives and let us see a realistic action sequence (not that we don't have a couple)...

That pic doesn't flatter Shilpa. There are better shots than that one of her. What about Aishwarya Rai?

Shilpa is actually very attractive. She was involved in a big race controversy over here in England on the British show Celebrity Big Brother and is smokin hot in the UK right now. She came off very well. Sadly female British youth did not. Face from the A-team was trying like mad to hit that. It was quite funny.

Aiswariah Rai. There is no substitute. She is known as the most beautiful woman in the world and if she can agree to do crappy TV movies like The Legion that surely they could persuade her to do 007.

If they were going to film the climax at the race, the only time would be now. The race only happens once a year. I've been to the place where they hold it... it should be pretty awesome seeing as Bond always has nice scenery.

Horses? Ohhhhhhhh.... I was hoping he woud club a few baby seals. They're much cuter and would really piss off those who really make money of them; the animal rights groups.

This news is disappointing. Of all the beautiful actresses in the world why Shilpa Shetty? She should not be a Bond girl.

she looks better than eva green...so its all good. that Rai chic, the "most beautiful woman in the world" is decent. but to me, she wouldn't be much if she was american. she's better than say...adriana lima-alba-biel? she's got nice eyes but...i think that title holds about as much as cindy margolis' "most downloaded woman on the net" bs of a few years ago. as long as this bond chic can act(denise richards), hasn't done any french movies(eva green) that she sleeps with her brother and shows a RIDICULOUSLY hairy el presidente... and isn't annoying(halle berry)...i'll be happy.

Shilpa Shetty will be the best Bond girl ever. She is more beautiful than Michelle Yeoh, but can do action scenes just as well. And, people, puhleeeze stop talking about boring, lackadaisical Aishwarya. A Bond girl has to do more than swoon and moon around looking lost and pathetic. Shilpa is the best and only choice.

Sorry, don't see the appeal of this chick at all... Never been a big fan of the Princess Jasmines (as my ex-roommate named them)... particularly Rai. But I guess Bond's already tapped the European market.

Animal rights groups ... making MONEY on the species they protect!?!? Cindy_Lou_Who, you're clearly completely out of your mind. And LJPlayer69, how in God's name does caring about the welfare of animals mean you don't care about people? I'm speechless at the idiocy of that reasoning.
