But Richie's... Richie Rich has found his niche: his family is worth billions, Reggie Jackson is his batting coach, and Claudia Schiffer is his personal trainer. There's a McDonalds in his mansion. But Richie's riches bring two glitches: he doesn't have any playmates, and vile villain Laurence Van Dough wants to take over the family fortune -- by doing away with the lad's mom and dad. Richie's itch for friends is solved by his servant Cadbury, who finds some "regular" kids who are eager to enjoy Richie's extravagant playthings. So when Richie's parents need to be saved from Van Dough, these new friends don't ditch Rich but will their rescue mission go off without a hitch? [More]

Plays on every kid's fantasy of being so wealthy that no one likes him.

It was fun for what it was...which is not very much, but hey...kids will get a kick out of it for all the fun gadgets.

Most of the time, Richie Rich is too busy oohing and ahhing over the junk that money can buy to relax and have a good time.

There's absolutely nothing here you haven't seen before, and while some kids might be mildly entertained, they would probably be even happier just staying home.

The filmmakers seem to think of their movie as a fiduciary fable, but they're not quite sure about its moral.

What's sort of wonderful is the way this movie takes that old formula and makes it fresh and new, with actors who give it wit and charm.

Be careful about taking kids under 7 or 8 as it may scare them.
