This time around, in addition to the corporate goons who are busy exploiting the blighted city of Detroit, RoboCop must battle a psychotic drug lord known as Cain and his vicious, foul-mouthed, 12-year-old assistant. Now that his own brain has been zapped by a potent new drug known as Nuke, Cain plans to market the substance to the citizens of Detroit. The diabolical drug dealer soon proves to be not only evil, but indestructible; when RoboCop finally succeeds in killing him, Cain is resurrected as RoboCop 2 and embarks on a rampage of murder and destruction. The movie's screenplay is a confusion of half-baked and unfinished ideas.

Despite a few laughs and some exciting moments, RoboCop 2 is a mess.

With its desensitizing blood lust, RoboCop 2 contributes yet another ugly note to this already demoralizing season of sadism.

You almost have to admire Robocop 2 for undermining everything its predecessor stood for with an incredible sense of single-mindedness.

...the film forsakes most of its progenitor's lighthearted yet moving emotional appeal and replaces it with gunfire, car chases, and explosions.

Everything in the first movie is pretty much redone again. But in this case, the repetition isn't a bad thing.

RoboCop 2 is all machine, and it's all vile.

This ultraviolent, nihilistic sequel has enough technical dazzle to impress hardware fans, but obviously no one in the Orion front office told filmmakers that less is more.

Still compelling action sci-fi, due to Weller's character.

An inferior follow-up, but still entertaining. Lacks an interesting central villain, but some great robot mano-a-mano.

An unfairly maligned sequel that's just as edgy and exciting as the original.
