Video Exclusive: Gerard Butler talks RocknRolla and 300 sequel with RT
On Guy Ritchie's return to form and a flashback-cameo for King Leonidas
by Joe Utichi | September 05, 2008

RocknRolla is, critics are rumbling, Guy Ritchie's powerful return to form, a snappy ensemble crime caper featuring drug dealers, Russian billionaires, rock stars and a priceless painting. And with two sequels planned, along with a big-screen adaptation of Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr., it seems the inventor of the mockney gangster flick has returned from the rocky road of Revolver and Swept Away.

His lead in RocknRolla, Gerard Butler, couldn't be on finer form. After breaking out in a big way as Leonidas in Zack Snyder's excellent 300, the Scottish actor is now one of Hollywood's most beloved A-listers, even an appearance in the risible P.S. I Love You didn't seem to shake his cool.

RT caught up with Butler in London to talk RocknRolla and learn more about the rumours of a 300 sequel. Would the actor be up for hitting the gym for a potential flashback-cameo from Leonidas in follow-up? Watch the feature and find out!

is he really an A lister? 300, thats all he had i think. Saw the Romance? yeah, that looked mind numbingly stupid, plus Swank scares me. hopefully Rocknrolla rocks because Ritchie has made some sweet films and Butler seemed to be quickly abandoning the action flick genre with the chic flick and then Nim's Island. c'mon dude...

and unlike the critics, i thought Revolver was pretty coo, but i'm also a die hard Statham fan

Well if you're a Statham fan I suggest you keep an eye on the site the week of Death Race's UK release...

As for Gerry, I'd say he's at the lower end of the A-list... He's no Angelina, but 300 made a big star out of him, definitely with an online audience, and he won the ladies P.S. and Nim's...

Probably B-list. But I like him.

Yeah he is good, I mean Phantom of the Oprah was huge even though I didn't like it. He was cool in 300, a fun movie. I also liked Dear Franky. I do think he should stick to action, I think RocknRolla is Ritchie's come back, and Gerard Butler looks cool in it. Also The Game sounds like a really cool movie, plus its from the guys who did Crank.

Oh god not 300 the sequel/prequel.
First one was bad enough.
All that slow motion crap was annoying.
The movie could have been good had it not been for that.

I think the movie could have been better if it lost 25 minutes or so, because at times the slo-mo was tedious and it wouldn't have been botherome if the movie was only 90 minutes.

300 doesn't need a sequel or prequel, bad idea.

rocknrolla looks pretty good.

and no gerard is not on the A-list just yet, but he might be after rocknrolla.

Hey, I'm up for anything that gets Gerard Butler the hell OUT OF toothless chick flicks. Sh.it, even my little sister refuses to this very day to believe "that dude" in 'P.S. I love you' is the same guy from 300.

Overrated actor, but as he is only recently in the limelight maybe he'll start to collect some decent roles.

300's slow motion rocked. We'll agree to disagree.

Everyones career has to start somewhere. As they say, you do some for pleasure and some for the $$$$$$$. The G Man is awesome and if not A list for some, he's headed in the right direction for moi.
