This collection of seven pilot episodes by the Krofft brothers--the puppeteers responsible for classic 1970s kids' fare like H.R. PUFNSTUF and LAND OF THE LOST--instantly evokes memories of pajamas and sugared cereals. Some of their shows achieved more popularity than others (the little-remembered LIDSVILLE took place in a city where every citizen was a hat), but all share an innocent, goofy, and decidedly odd sensibility. Some of the shows (notably H.R. PUFNSTUF, with its talking golden flute and genial dragon) can't help but evoke the psychedelic experiments of the era, but, regardless, these episodes now feel like a nostalgic throwback to more innocent times. The other pilots presented here are THE BUGALOOS, SIGMUND AND THE SEA MONSTERS, THE LOST SAUCER, and FAR OUT SPACE NUTS. [More]
