Time for Another Romero Remake?
And it's got nothing to do with 'Halloween 3'
We've already seen the remakes of Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, plus there's another pair of Romero remakes (Day of the Dead and The Crazies) on the horizon... So what's left from the filmmaker's back catalog?
Apparently the legendary horror-maker wants to mount a remake of his 1972 thriller Season of the Witch (aka Hungry Wives). He told IGN Movies that he thinks the story could easily make sense these days: "I think it could be pertinent in a different way ... There are still women's issues and there are still jerky guys like [Joan Mitchell's] husband, still brutal - to say nothing of being insensitive, but actually brutal - so I'd like to remake it."
The director explains that his original movie isn't precisely what he'd hoped for, what with the tiny budget and all, but with horror remakes all the rage this decade, why not take Season of the Witch out for another spin?

on Aug 01 2007 08:50 AM i saw one of the older ones(after i saw the new remake) and i don't get the big deal. i think it was Land, but i'm not real sure. the one with the zombie being held captive, ed or george or something. i didn't like it, so i don't really remember...sorry. it was slow...and really boring. and don't get me started on the acting, jesus. with all the hurrah romero gets for his past flix...i thought it pretty much sucked. but hearing horror "comedy"...is enticing. too many times they try to be scary and it comes off stupid. on Aug 01 2007 03:26 PM Il stick with shaun of the dead, Braindead and 28weeks later. Almost all other zombie films suck!!! I did like the dawn of the dead remake though. Oh, and that trailer for Resident evil 3, looks better than both the other R-E films put together. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 20 2007 04:40 AM I guess the problem most of you guys have with Romero's films is that you try and watch them as genre flicks. I don't think that works very well, because Romero's Dead series is so much different from the genre it has inspired, that it would be more useful to make two categories: Zombie films and Romero films. Zombie films usually follow the genre formular while Romero has always had a tendency to ingnore, or even purposely reverse generic elements. So if some of his films have a "slow" feeling, you can bet that this has been intended. The zombies in Romero's films are more likely made to make you think than to scare you. The DAWN remake is a great film, but it is rather a fast paced action movie than a "true" remake of DAWN (1978), which has a much deeper underlying meaning. I love both films, but for different reasons. (Reply to this) |
