The spies are headed by an evil baroness (Tala Birell) and her ruthless Aryan liaison, Fritz (John Banner). A good-hearted lighthouse keeper (George Cleveland) and his attractive young daughter (Bonita Granville) are among the hostages caught in the cross fire. This was one of Dmytryk's early B-movies. He would go on to make MURDER MY SWEET the following year and elevate his stature to that of an A-list director, earning the unofficial title of Father of Film Noir before being blacklisted as a communist in the early 1950s.
