7 Films Eligible for Best Makeup Oscar
by Scott Weinberg | January 11, 2006
Discuss Article
Yesterday we found out which movies would duke it out for the Best Sound FX Oscar nominations, and today we get the Best Makeup side of the equation. Thanks again to ComingSoon.net for sharing the Academy's press release. (And can someone explain to me why "Sin City" didn't make this short-list? I mean ... sheesh!)

"The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced the seven films being considered for Achievement in Makeup for the 78th Academy Awards®.

The films in consideration are listed below in alphabetical order:

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
Cinderella Man
A History of Violence
The Libertine
Mrs. Henderson Presents
The New World
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Ten-minute clip reels from each of the seven films will be screened for the Makeup Award Nominating Committee on Saturday, January 28. The committee may nominate three of these seven films for Oscar® consideration.

Nominated films will be announced along with nominations in 23 other categories on Tuesday, January 31, at 5:30 a.m. PST.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2005 will be presented on Sunday, March 5, 2006, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. PST."

I haven't seen all these films but isn't the chronicles a slam dunk to win here?

I liked Cinderella Man and Star Wars, so I'll cheer for them. I really want to see The New World.

i wished they had nominated sin city as well.i mean at least they could have nominated land of the dead. for some reason the academy seems to miss some of the best make up through the horror genre

Makeup...not effects
King Kong still has makeup in it...every movie does! and furthermore...kong is shot in the traditional format for theatrical release, not 3D.
