Nice try Mr. Katzenberg, but not a winner this round.

Academy Award® nominee Brad Pitt ("Twelve Monkeys"), Academy Award® winner Catherine Zeta-Jones ("Chicago"), three-time Oscar® nominee Michelle Pfeiffer ("Dangerous Liaisons," "The Fabulous Baker Boys," "Love Field"), Joseph Fiennes ("Shakespeare in Love") and Dennis Haysbert ("Far From Heaven," TV’s "24") lend their voices to the animated action adventure "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas." Sinbad (Brad Pitt), the most daring and notorious rogue ever to sail the seven seas, has spent his life asking for trouble, and trouble has finally answered…in a big way. Framed for stealing one of the world’s most priceless and powerful treasures—the Book of Peace—Sinbad has one chance to find and return the precious book or his best friend Proteus (Joseph Fiennes) will die. Sinbad decides not to take that chance and instead sets a course for the fun and sun of the Fiji Islands. Not so fast. Proteus’ beautiful betrothed, Marina (Catherine Zeta-Jones), has stowed away, determined to make sure that Sinbad fulfills his mission. Now the man who put the "bad" in Sinbad is about to find out how bad bad can be. It’s never a good thing when Eris, the goddess of chaos (Michelle Pfeiffer), has it out for you, and Eris lives up to her name—dispatching both monstrous creatures and the elements to do battle with Sinbad along the way. There is even mutiny afoot—times four—when Sinbad’s loyal dog Spike switches allegiances. But those challenges don’t compare to one small but formidable woman named Marina. "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas" is directed by Tim Johnson and Patrick Gilmore and produced by Mireille Soria ("Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron") and Jeffrey Katzenberg ("Shrek"), from a screenplay by John Logan ("Gladiator"). Reviews for Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas
I would have liked the characters to resemble their famous voice actors, but a Sinbad who looks as good as Brad Pitt might be too cute for his own legend!
A visually exhilarating mix of hand-drawn and computer-generated images that sets sail with a rather mediocre and clichéd script.
As routine as many live-action adventure films, right down to the competent but fairly undistinguished art and animation.
Handily outdoes [Treasure Planet], with bravura action set pieces, a surprisingly complex romantic triangle, and thoughtful exploration of moral issues and character.
While younger kids will enjoy the magic and adventure, the real mystery is whether older audiences will respond as well.
Even the voices of Brad Pitt, Michelle Pfeiffer and Catherine Zeta-Jones can’t save this movie from just feeling "blah..."
It's a decent summer distraction for restless little ones, but not much more.
For all of its freedom of movement, the film lacks real personality, and in parts, it's oddly serious-minded.
... entertains and fully exploits all the accomplishments DreamWorks' animation department has made to this point... "Sinbad" stands as an accomplishment all on its own.
Dreamworks animation has a lot to live up to after Shrek, but this wacky and high-spirited version of the Sinbad legend really isn't too bad.
This is not the kind of movie that keeps our hopes alive for a successful return of the standard animated feature.
If you drag a gang along to this one, be prepared to make amends with a trip to Pirates of the Caribbean.
There's much to like here -- a gag-filled script, impressive visuals and Michelle Pfeiffer's classy villainess.
Feature length films should no longer be hand drawn if the studios want the public to shell out fifty bucks to take the family to see them on the big screen.
The kids will like its simplicity and manic motion, but if you want more than that, you won't find it here.
A lot of fun and a thoroughly enjoyable family adventure which, though not on the level of the Disney classics, is nonetheless worth watching. Recommended.
The story of Sinbad is a classic. If you're going to tackle a classic, make it an enduring tribute to the original.
