He reaches his breaking point when he must set free two members of a child-pornography ring accused of murdering a boy. Feeling defeated, Hardin turns to his mentor Judge Caulfield, who ushers him into a secret society of magistrates called the Star Chamber. These judges act as deadly vigilantes, exacting revenge on heinous lawbreakers freed on technicalities. But when the Star Chamber sets its sights on the child-porno duo, Hardin finds himself protecting the killers, who may not be guilty after all. [More]

A couple of great chases, but it doesn't quite live up to its intriguing premise.

The Star Chamber is an intense, thought-provoking, great-looking action-packed thriller. Sadly overlooked in theaters, this is truly an '80s buried treasure.

While the movie is set in L.A., the rules of justice appear exaggerated to the point where the film seems to be taking place in a different country, but it doesn't really matter. It would be great fun just to put up your feet and watch director Peter Hyam
