Pacino, Cillian Murphy Team for Dali & I
A surreal pairing, har har har!

Cillian Murphy is entering the art world.

Well, not really. But, as The Hollywood Reporter tells it, the actor has signed on to play a young art deaer who crosses paths with Salvador Dali in Dali & I: The Surreal Story. Playing Dali? A young up-and-comer you may have heard of named Al Pacino.

Andrew Niccol is directing the project, which is based on the real-life experiences of art dealer Stan Lauryssens, and is rewriting John Salvati's script, which was drawn from Lauryssens' autobiography, Dali and I. The Reporter gives the following synopsis:

The movie, which will span the 1960s-80s, follows the time in Salvador Dali's life when most of his great work was behind him and he became more flamboyant. Dali (Pacino) also developed a mentor-protege relationship with a young art dealer named Stan Lauryssens (Murphy).

Filming is scheduled to begin early next year in Spain and New York. Murphy and Pacino were most recently seen in Sunshine and Ocean's Thirteen, respectively.

Wow. What disturbs me is I honestly think Pacino can pull it off.

It would be very interesting in my opinion to see these 2 great actors sharing roles in a film. Besides, I consider that actors and actresses must be multitasking in the thing that they must even roles of characters of different nationalities. So, I consider that this would be very interesting to see.

Sounds pretty good, but can they use a different title? The "(prolific artist) and I" title is way overused.

so, what nationality are you, or do you just not write well?

actually he's acted as a cuban & a puerto rican, direct descendants of th spanish culture. nevertheless, there are so many great spanish actors who should be given the opportunity to show how great they are that when i remmember him in the role of tony montana i couldn't get out of my head that he was an italo american actor. and as carlito in carlitos way, he defenetly lacked the puerto rican spirit. we'll have to wait and see. in the mean time lets keep enjoying good spanish movies with excellent actors and actreesses.

This is kind of cool; we have two great actors from two different generations collaborating for one single movie. I've always liked when stuff like this happens. It's too early to pass judgment on this movie, so I'll just say that I plan to keep an eye on it, since I'm a big fan of Cillian Murphy and Al Pacino isn't that bad either.

I must apologize. I didn't wrote that properly. I must have said that actors and actresses must play roles that are not from the country they were born.

Hmmm, I'd agree, but the movie is going to be a dramatisation of the book of the same name, so to change the movie title would be like changing the names of the movie versions of "Cold Mountain", "Jurassic Park", "Casino Royale" or "The DaVinci Code". Actually, the DaVinci Code movie should have been called "Utter Crap".

Wonderful combination. Both have a flair for the dramatic, but both can play it cool when necessary. One problem....way too far in the future before release! Hate that!

this movie should be good. Although hollywood often screws up artist's biographies, in the hands of the guy who scripted the truman show this looks like a safe bet. and to anyone who has the nerve to doubt, even to question al pacino's acting ability, get offline before you embarrass yourself any further.
