Where can a girl who is usually the heartbreaker find the perfect guy? For Christina Walters (Cameron Diaz), the answer is the San Francisco nightclub where she meets Peter Donahue (Thomas Jane). Unfortunately, their meeting is fleeting and this quintessential hip party girl is left in unfamiliar territory--smitten by a total stranger. Determined to see her best friend happy, Courtney Rockliffe (Christina Applegate) takes Christina on a road trip to Peter's sleepy California hometown in search of the man of her dreams. In the meantime, Christina's roommate, the just-dumped Jane Burns (Selma Blair), engages in her own lusty pursuits. Diaz and Applegate have great chemistry and are utterly believable as best friends. The script by Nancy M. Pimental, who wrote for South Park, blends raunchy humor and sentimentality, both of which are complimented by a healthy dose of sight gags. Directed by Roger Kumble (CRUEL INTENTIONS), THE SWEETEST THING is an amusing--albeit somewhat crude--look at what people will do for love. The film also features Jason Bateman in fine form as Peter's brother, indie queen Parker Posey as a bride-to-be, and a brief appearance by Applegate's real-life husband, actor Jonathan Schaech. Reviews for The Sweetest Thing
It's not great or inspired by any means, but it's cute and amusing enough.
Call it a younger, West Coast cousin to Sex and the City, or There's Something About Mary from the woman's point of view.
If a date suggests the two of you should go and see this film dump them.
...Mixes smut and wacky girlfriend antics in equal parts, often scoring the guilty chuckle in spite of itself, with plenty of bra-and-panty shots to please the guys.
Just when you think it's going to be a sappy chick flick, The Sweetest Thing surprises with a lewd joke or half-naked girl.
Cameron Diaz "comedy" follows the Farrelly brothers' path with degrading, unfunny "jokes" that make you feel unclean just watching them.
