Has McG Found Terminator 4's John Connor?
AICN's sources say it's Christian Bale.
by Jeff Giles | November 26, 2007
Discuss Article
Could McG -- director of the upcoming Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins -- have already found his John Connor?

That's what Ain't It Cool News is suggesting. The site's "behind-the-scenes god," tipster RoRo, cited "an extremely trusted source" last Wednesday, reporting that none other than Christian Bale has been cast as the machine-fighting, future-saving hero of the franchise.

It's just a rumor, obviously, but if it's true, this would be something of a coup for McG -- and would also go a long way toward silencing the groans of Terminator fans who were less than pleased with the news of the director's involvement. Who wouldn't want to see Bale kicking Terminator butt?

Christian Bale would make an excellent future John connor. Better than that weak chinned guy from T3.

I would love to see maybe a new future set Terminator Trilogy, with the end outcome of them capturing a Terminator (a CGI - Ahnold) to send back in time. This would be the main goal of the new films and would explain the absence of Arnie throughout the films.

Just have a cgi Arnie show up at the end, because if you remember, T1, showed many diffrent terminators in the future. They could even make a few cgi Arnies, with diffrent looks.. AKA.. Terminator 1, Arnies and T2 Arnies, they both had diffrent looks. Easier to CG him younger than plaster the Governator in makeup.

Hopefully, this will kick ***, as i still feel i havent truly seen the potential of the Terminator franchise. 3 sucked, but that doesnt mean new ones have to suck. By the way, I did agree with the storyline in 3, about the future being inevitable. So about time we saw some future post apocalypse action.

Bring it on I say! Just dont stuff it up!

Bt the way, this storyline i mentioned was the storyline i saw in the Terminator game for the xbox. And the beginning FMV, was better than ALL of T3.

It showed John and his men bring down Arnie with some electrified bolts that they fired into him. They re-programmed him like Robocop, then sent him into the time machine, which was a sphere of liquid metal that rolled around in a cage like pin-ball, then went all back to the future on us. Damn cool cutscene, and they NEED that in the sequel!

uh... I dunno. Loves' me some Christian Bale, but this may be stretching the dude a little bit thin. I think this is just a rumor, anyway. It doesn't seem like the type of thing he'd do.

Bale better than this???? This is TERMINATOR! It dont come much bigger, we arent talking attack of the killer tomaroes 2 here.

T3 sucked because it had the wrong director, and the end of the film should have been its beginining. With what T4 will be, is what T3 Shoulda been. I will throw away my T3 if this T4 takes its place as the correct way to end a GREAT trilogy.

holy sh3t...this just jumped up to top 10 movies i'm pumped to see. Bale is one of my fav actors. BUT, i think this is just a rumor considering they said its going to be a series of movies with the new Connor. least thats what i heard...and if thats the case, how would that gel with his Batman franchise? seems like alot of work with no time for serious roles

Thats true Gimy, But Bale owes a Bunch to Batman, he said it himself. Batman gave him the power to choose these smaller roles, he may also thank John Connor in the long run. If true that is, sure itd be a tight schedule, but actors dont spend as much time making the movie as some would think. A lot of them finish shooting in about 3 or 4 months, the rest of the time goes on pre-production and POST production, editing and sfx.

So I reckon Bale could squeez in Batman Terminator and a whole bunch of small indie films. maybe.

I love christian bale, but any casting is a moot point with McG directing.

All the big stars in the world can't save a crappy director, and this case I'm a little worried about Hollywood being oversaturated with Christian Bale. Don't get me wrong, he's an amazing actor, but I don't want his star power to burn out too quickly because of too many movie roles. One movie star to a blockbuster franchise, I say, and no more.

I'll give McG a chance on this one. I wasn't overly thrilled with the Charlie's Angels movies, but they weren't bad either.

I agree with Bat-Fink that T3 should've began where it ended, but I didn't think T3 was the piece-of-crap that most other people think it is. I thought the story was good, loved the ending, just thought that the new terminator fell short a bit.

Bale could make a great future John Connor (acting-wise he's top notch), but I'm still nuke warm on the idea. I'd almost prefer a lesser name. Bale has just been too many other successful characters for me to associate him with John Connor.

Elixor...thats the thing i LOVE about bale. you don't see him personally, you see his characters. he's as dynamic as Depp, and never really chooses the same roles. also, he's NEVER EVER in the public eye either...so you never hear his real voice and how he is in private. both should make it even LESS likely he'll be overdone in Hollywood. i've only seen one of his movies(where he was the main character) that i wasn't that impressed with, and thats Harsh Times. i wouldn't be that worried 'bout a movie series Bale wanted to be in unless it was a new Star Wars trilogy or Uwe Boll was directing, anything other than those two i think he'd be good enough to overcome...

And T4? Please.

Bale would never do this.

At first I thought this was way beneath Bale, and pprobably not true... but there is a writer's strike going on, so actors are probably snapping up any and all roles that have scripts completed and ready to go into production. Currently, Bale only has Killing Pablo lined up ( for 2009 release) and unfortunately, that movie is another case where there is a competing version in pre-production (from Oliver Stone). If the Bale/Bardem/Carnahan movie doesn't get to theatres first, it could flop.

Bale probably didn't get the salary he was due for any of the Batman films, because he had no leverage at the time he signed, and WB had an option for 3 films. I hope he gets a huge payday if he is taking on T4... since he has been repeatedly snubbed by AMPAS, he might as well go for the big bucks. A huge payday and (another) high profile franchise would also allow him to do more of the smaller projects he likes.

I just hope that McG has a better movie in him than his track record would indicate, and that the new franchise pays off in a big way financially for Bale. I also hope, if he takes it, that it's a REAL action role, and not another role he decides to starve himself for.
