"The Dark Knight" Claims a Release Date
Nothing all that stunning, but we do have some release date news for "The Dark Knight," which (of course) is the widely-anticipated follow-up to Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins." (Go circle July 18th, 2008 on your calendar.)
The report from Movieweb.com: " Warner Bros. Pictures has set the release date for the The Dark Knight, the sequel to 2005's Batman Begins for July 18, 2008. The film will star Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman.
In the film, Batman and Commissioner Gordon find alliance with a newly appointed DA Harvey Dent to stop a vicious killer with a warped sense of humor known only as The Joker, a threat to both the good, and the evil of Gotham City."

Spyweb writes: on Nov 17 2006 07:20 AM Sweet, official news! Now who's playing Dent? C'mon, I'm dying for any word... But anyway, I like the July release date; I expected June seeing as how all the other Bat-films opened in that month. Should give Batman plenty of room to flex his muscles over the summer (most of the competition should have already been released). So how many comic book adaptions is that for that summer? Iron Man in early May, F4 in 'Begins' June slot, Hulk over the 4th, and now Batman? Who am I forgetting? :p (Reply to this) |

It aint worth it. Although I can't wait for Dark night Either....Or and FYI I pre ordered the Nintendo Wii and Zelda (Reply to this) |

bmg615 writes: on Nov 18 2006 09:32 AM Bad release date Right now, Dark Knight is FOURTH in a long line of superhero movies being released in summer '08. Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, and Tonight, He Comes are all coming out before Dark Knight. If Dark Knight reclaims its mid-June release date, it would be only second out of the gate behind Iron Man, which comes out the first weekend of May and would not be any sort of competition by then. As it is, it comes out less than a month after Hulk and only two weeks after Tonight, He Comes. Will there be a significant (non-Batman-obsessed) audience left for Dark Knigt? Maybe. Probably not. After the great response of Batman Begins, the next installment had a good chance of opening to well over $70 million (which is what the first three Batman movies all made in today's dollars). But by mid-July, people will be exhausted of superheroes. I wouldn't be surprised if Dark Knight barely out-grosses Begins. A disappointing Fantastic Four-like opening in the low- to mid-$50 million's might be in the cards if they don't change their release date to mid-June, where it belongs. (Reply to this) |
