A Pair of "Dark Knight" Tidbits
We haven't had much "Dark Knight" news since Aaron Eckhart was named as Two-Face ... about three days ago. But today we have two little news niblets, one regarding the arrival of a character that some of you might know -- and the other one dealing with the start of production.
#1. Apparently the character of "Renee Montoya" will appear in the "Batman Begins" sequel. Apparently she was in the comic books.
#2. Looks like April is when production on "The Dark Knight" will begin. Which is good because the movie's set to hit theaters next summer. And there's lots of post-production work on movies like these. Obviously.
Bonus and still unconfirmed rumor: Maggie Gyllenhaal in with Katie Holmes out? We shall see.

Matanuki writes: on Feb 22 2007 04:31 AM AWESOME Bringing in Renee Montoya. Now that's a cool idea. It'll be interesting to see how they handle Dent's reckless infatuation with her over the next two films, that is, if they choose to address it. But who to play her? I say Roselyn Sanchez. Could there be anyone more perfect for this part? She's got the hair, the nationality, the personality, and a lot of experience playing hard nosed detective types. She'd fit right in. lrm8 writes: on Feb 22 2007 08:36 AM montoya is cool... in some comics she was portrayed as a lesbian, although im pretty sure thats not where nolan is going with the character... after they finish the trilogy, they need to seriously look into making The Dark Knight Returns. Zach Snyder/Frank Miller with mel gibson as the older bruce wayne, johnny depp as the older joker (not so far fetched, depp is like 42, and by the time they are ready to make this he'll be like 52) and denzel as an older two face. it would ROCK. lrm8 writes: on Feb 22 2007 10:59 AM yes, im also saying that batman is going to stop looking like christian bale and start looking like mel gibson (sarcasm). DKR doesnt have to be in the same continuity as the current trilogy, slick. (Reply to this) |

Matanuki writes: on Feb 22 2007 11:17 AM JUST GO FOR IT! I don't see why Nolan wouldn't go ahead and make Montoya lesbian in the film. Forget that PG:13 garbage. They should just go for an R and just make a real Batman movie. Make Montoya a lesbian, Bruce a playboy, Joker a homicidal maniac, and Dent plagued by an unhealthy infatuation for Renee. Batman could be forced to kill someone, or haunted by the idea that his stand for justice is falling short of fulfilling his primal need for vengeance. Talia could get it in his mind that he is growing in the image of her father, Ra's, and that he should embrace this destiny and claim her as his wife. This explores the attraction Batman has for her that often puts him on the fence. Maybe even Dawes could die, making it even harder for Bruce to choose the Lighted path... (Reply to this) |

Really dark and rich, just what Batman should be. Apropos of nothing, today is my birthday. I just felt like posting a comment on my birthday. (Reply to this) |

zeromark16 writes: on Feb 22 2007 01:18 PM What a crappy cast. Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and (unconfirmed) Morgan Freeman? Listen to those names. We're in big trouble here. (Reply to this) |

Matanuki writes: on Feb 22 2007 02:14 PM Only two of those names weren't in the original cast, so how the hell are we "in trouble"? But anyway, happy birthday Circe. I don't expect the film to resemble my ideal much (it would be cool if it did), but I'm confident that Dark Knight will definitely be a worthy film. (Reply to this) |

mojodaddy writes: on Feb 22 2007 02:47 PM In reply to this comment (#856419) Happy birthday :) If Montoya was a lesbian then it would make Dent's love for her just stupid. Joker should be a pretty dark character, but I don't think they should add Talia into the mix, they already have Dent and Joker, and we don't want a villain overload. I liked the idea that someone mentioned about at the end Batman makes the decision that he's got to bring the joker in alive, and then at his trial, joker pours the acid on Dent and gets away. Then the last shot of the movie should be Dent after he's taken the bandages off. It would set the third one up perfectly. (Reply to this) |

supermanofsteel writes: on Feb 22 2007 03:11 PM In reply to this comment (#856424) Referring to the Montoya comment, that's actually how it was in the comics. Dent fell in love with Montoya because she was the only one who ever treated him as human while he was two-face. But Montoya didn't accept him because one he was still an evil sadist and two, the whole lesbian thing. It's just another example of unrequited love. I doubt they'd follow this storyline in the movie, however. But that doesn't mean Montoya shouldn't be a lesbian because of it. And referring to another comment made by a previous poster, where's it stated that having a homosexual character would negate a PG-13 rating. (Reply to this) |

dylan21484nj writes: on Feb 22 2007 07:50 PM Montoya's in the film? throw in Harvey Bullock and the film will be even more ass-kicking than we already know it will be. but sorry lrm8, i don't think there will ever be a Dark Knight Returns movie. as great and groundbreaking as it was, DKR is too much of an "Elseworlds" story. for the unfamiliar, Elseworlds stories often make major changes to the characters (like making Batman a vampire or making Superman a communist) and deviate from the storylines in the comics, often making them stand-alone stories. only on extremely rare occasions are Elseworlds stories adopted as canon to the normal storyline. plus, DKR would be too hard too adapt. if you try to update its 80's-centric story for modern times (like they did with V for Vendetta), you're gonna piss off every fan of the graphic novel, which is just about everyone who has touched a comic book in the last 21 years. and if they keep the story 80's-centric, modern movie audiences will have a hard time adhering to it. simply put, there will NEVER be a DKR movie, no matter how much you wish and hope and beg and plead. sorry. and Matanuki, i think zeromark16 is being sarcastic.
