on Jul 17 2008 06:35 AM Although Spiderman 3 made a lot of money, It was such a god awful movie that no one would dare see it twice let alone recommend it to anyone. I could definitely see The Dark Knight being one of those movies that you experience in the theaters more than once. I know I will! I could definitely see it breaking records. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 17 2008 07:19 AM I see it making around 115 to 120 mil in the first weekend. I think the fact of how dark it is will effect the parents taking they're children to it, meaning us adults will just have to make up they're tickets by seeing it more! (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jul 17 2008 07:58 AM Between the non-stop hype, anticipation and so on did anyone else notice they are actually trying to release other movies this weekend?!? Hilarious. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 17 2008 08:11 AM aaaaaaaaaand the wait is finally over, tonite's the night baby. i'd be disappointed with anything less than 120 this weekend. i'm so sick of crap movies making alot of dough that i would love to see quality actors(bale, maggs, eckhart, heath, caine, oldman...on and on and on) can make a crap load of money too. hopefully it destroys everything else that comes out this year or that is already out(including Iron Man, which was awesome) (Reply to this) |

on Jul 17 2008 08:37 AM In reply to this comment (#1882825) I think that The Dark Knight is going to make a ton of money, as well it should...but why are some of the people on here talking like it DESERVES it. It's like we measure a movie's greatness in terms of how much money it makes. Back in the day, we didn't have movie theaters with 30 screens, or tickets prices of $10 and up. Has anyone ever looked at the sheer number of people that ATTENDED the highest grossing films of all time. If we took into modern inflation into account, Gone With the Wind would be the number 1 movie of all time. For example, far more people went to see Jurassic Park when it opened, and back then, there was no IMAX, no HD projection...films were LUCKY to get 3 screens on an opening weekend. I'll shut my mouth now because I know I'm going to get blasted here soon! (Reply to this) |

on Jul 17 2008 09:06 AM With all the theaters sold out, the records Dark Knight is beginning to set(89% of all Fandango ticket sales this past weekend) and the money alreay pulled in from IMAX, I'm glad people posting about how so few people were really anticipating this movie or how it might not make close to Iron Man levels of money can finally SHUT THE F**K UP!! DARK KNIGHT FOREVER! BALE AND NOLAN RULE!! (Reply to this) |

on Jul 17 2008 09:51 AM Zed'sDead - You're right on the money. Ticket price inflation will always make it appear that more people are seeing movies than there really are. It's really too bad. Box Office receipts, if they were reported by a non-partial source, would be ridiculously low. This movie will make a ton of money, but advance ticket sales records are broken every year. That alone isn't an indication of how huge a movie will be. It is also an indication of how people are buying tickets, and more and more people are using the internet. I'm looking forward to seeing it, but I'll wait until next weekend to avoid the crowds. If the rumors are true, and this movie is the widest release in history, and is selling out a lot of those showings, how could it not earn more than the $150 mil Spiderman 3 made? It would be an embarassment to NOT make as much as Sp3. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 17 2008 10:38 AM zed, alot of people DO measure success in terms of money and i'm tired of seeing crap flicks making a CRAPload of money. what does that do? in turn, studios see what CRAP makes money...and they make more of them. if you finally turn out a WELL made movie...maybe they'd take notice and start to put quality directors with quality actors and give them a big budget. iron man and hopefully batman will help that cause. so thats why i think it DESERVES to be a huge money maker. if you put forth the effort and time and patience to make a good movie without selling out...you deserve more than just a stupid award(which for some reason bale hasn't even gotten nominated for). on Jul 17 2008 11:58 AM Gimy, I'm not trying to say that the Dark Knight is undeserving of making a lot of money...I haven't seen it, so like most people on here, I cannot say if it is well made or not. I'm just saying that we should not measure a film's level of greatness based on how much money it makes. Let' take a look at the 10 highest grossing films of all time: Can you honestly tell me that Shrek the Third which is #19 is better than The Empire Strikes Back, which is #50? Within the next 2 years, the top grossing films of all time list will be populated by the likes of Transformers 2, Shrek 4 and whatever Will Smith's next movie is. Will we still be able to say, these films made the most money, therefore, they are the best? (Reply to this) |

on Jul 17 2008 03:21 PM IMAmoose24, thank god its not a kids movie, 10000 animation every year (i like animation Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Rataouille, etc.), give me movies like TDK, Iron Man, NCFOM, TWBB, Casino Royale, etc, Ratatouille better than Kill Bill, Batman Begins its crazy. ![]() on Jul 17 2008 04:08 PM Right now Im waiting in line. I got about 8 hours to go and somehow I have internet connection, I think its because the apple store is near. There are rumors that the theater I am at have sold over 3,000 tickets to the Dark Knight for the premier showings alone. I think this is going to be the highest grossing film of all time.
