Consensus: The stories the soldiers have to tell are eye-opening and wrenching to hear; collectively it's a searing peek into the toll of war both during and after.

While the military has mastered the art of turning young men and women into heartless killers, it hasn't bothered to consider what happens when these soldiers return to America. Confusion, depression, and guilt are but a few of the fluctuating emotions that torment these citizens on a daily basis. And those are just the emotional scars. For many veterans, the reminders are devastatingly physical. Like Robert Acosta, who lost his right hand in combat. Or parents Joyce and Kevin Lucey, whose son Jeffrey committed suicide after returning home and finding that he couldn't silence his inner demons. But Foulkrod's main objective with THE GROUND TRUTH is to expose the problem that is threatening to become an epidemic: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Since this affliction is invisible and difficult to diagnose with factual objectivity, it makes it even more troublesome. Unfortunately, the American government appears to be hiding behind this excuse in order to avoid nursing this massive contingent of tortured individuals back to health. Over the course of the film, we meet many more veterans who express their disappointment with their government's baffling lack of support, and see rare footage of recruits in boot camp, where previously calm and rational individuals are turned into ferocious, animalistic killers. No matter what side of the debate on which one stands, it's impossible not to be affected by the stories shared within Foulkrod's sobering documentary. [More]

Reviews for The Ground Truth
"The success of The Ground Truth lies in the courageously open and honest interviewees, but it works because of Rob Hall's editing, which not only compiles for us a perfectly evidential collection of footage but does so at a pace that doesn't dilly-dally
This film is effective because it doesn't rely on statistics, but rather interviews with soldiers, interspersed with combat footage.
Um retrato impactante das feridas de guerra invisíveis e do descaso com que o governo Bush lida com aqueles que finge honrar.
The Ground Truth: After the Killing Ends makes up in raw anger what it lacks in objectivity.
[W]hat makes The Ground Truth compelling viewing for hawks and doves alike is the straightforward manner in which the participants tell their stories.
The Ground Truth ought to show in classrooms and outside of army recruiting stations.
The veteran's problems are something which should be done something about and soon, but a theatrical release of a propaganda film is not going to do anything for their cause.
This film, a raw howl of outrage and pain, is proudly one-sided, allowing a generation of wounded men and women to scream their betrayal.
Mostly a string of talking-head interviews, but those talking heads -- more than 16 men and women -- are compelling.
