When sexy psychiatrist Molly Griswold comes... At one time, Roy McAvoy coulda been a contender in a major golf tournament. Now, the ambition-free McAvoy runs a failing, armadillo-infested golf range. When sexy psychiatrist Molly Griswold comes to Roy for lessons, he's immediately smitten with her. But the ne'er-do-well realizes that the only way he'll have a chance with her is if he shapes up his act. Complicating matters is Molly's smug boyfriend David, an old friend of Roy's who is now a top golf pro. After a humiliating gig working as David's caddy, Roy decides to enter the U.S. Open. Although a long-shot, the underdog sees the Open as an opportunity to show up David, win Molly's heart -- and prove to himself he's not a loser. [More]

This is a marginally enjoyable film. It could have been a lot better with more effort.

Kevin Costner's golfing romance has OK swing but bad form.

Tin Cup, starring Kevin Costner as a likable loser, accomplishes the impossible, maybe the unimaginable -- it makes golf entertaining.

One of the best films of 1996 with its message that in love and in sports, playing it safe can't hold a candle to taking risks and acting from the heart.

Nobody in Hollywood knows more about sports and is less sentimental about them than Shelton.

Unfortunately, much of the movie's plot hinges on our belief that Costner is hopelessly, head-over-heels in love with Russo -- and they just don't have any chemistry together.

While the new movie is generally pleasant, it's also creaky: you know exactly where it's going and it takes too long to get there.

You're about to get bonked on the head with a has-been story, mediocre acting, and some squirmingly painful dialogue.

As sports movies go (regardless of the sport), this one turns in a respectable showing, injecting some intelligence and maturity into a story that easily could have succumbed to a flood of 'struggling underdog' cliches.

This film's overriding message is as pleasing as its flippant, skillful banter.

Breaking down the golf trajectories into separate shots during the sports climax comes across as an expedient form of cheating--the very opposite of authenticity.
