In 1984, Lloyd Kaufman and the Troma Team introduced the Toxic Avenger to an unsuspecting world. No one could have expected the response The Toxic Avenger received, with rave reviews in The New York Times and The Village Voice and playing theatrically in New York City for a year. Since then, Toxie has grown from a cult icon to an indelible part of the American lexicon. In the space of fifteen years, Tromaville’s favorite hideously deformed creature of superhuman size and strength has traveled from movies to comics to TV to the World Wide Web. Toxie’s brilliant career has produced two theatrical sequels, The Toxic Avenger Part II and The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation Of Toxie, an animated television series (Toxic Crusaders), numerous spin-off comic books published both by Marvel Comics and Troma’s own independent comics imprint, action figures, games, Topps trading cards, designer jewelry, and more merchandise than you can shake a mop at. Most recently, Toxie conquered cyberspace with the launch of www.toxicavenger.com, a brand-new website devoted exclusively to all things Toxic.

Now, at long last, Toxie returns to his roots on the big screen. The Troma Team is proud to present Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger Part IV, Toxie’s most ambitious and lavish movie to date. When the notorious Diaper Mafia take hostage the Tromaville School for the Very Special, only the Toxic Avenger and his morbidly obese sidekick Lardass can save Tromaville. However, an explosion results in some unforeseeable consequences, creating a dimensional tear between Tromaville and its dimensional mirror image, Amortville. While the Toxic Avenger (Toxie) is trapped in Amortville, Tromaville comes under the control of Toxie’s evil doppelganger, the Noxious Offender (Noxie).

Will Toxie return to Tromaville in time to stop Noxie’s rampage or is he doomed to remain a second-class citizen in Amortville forever? How did Toxie’s wife Sarah become pregnant with two babies from two different fathers? Will Tito, the Retarded Rebel, ever get over his teen angst and become a productive member of society?

Citizen Toxie features the most formidable line-up of superheroes ever assembled, including Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD, Mad Cowboy, Dolphin Man, Master Bator and The Vibrator. Director Kaufman has also assembled a cast that reads like a veritable reunion of Troma superstars, including Ron Jeremy, Lemmy, Hank the Angry Drunken Dwarf, James Gunn, and many others. Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger Part IV is the most extravagant tale of toxic adventure to date. [More]

Though not up to the heights of whacked-out insanity established in Kaufman's last two films ... the film does have its moments.

Puerile, gross and pandering to the lowest impulses of teenage boys.

If the take-no-prisoners humor of Citizen Toxie is very funny, the movie's relentless comic excess is ultimately a little exhausting.

Laughs are few and far between, and the film feels brutally long.
