Toy Story 3 Plot Spoiled...by the Wall Street Journal?
AICN to retaliate by spoiling Microsoft's second-quarter earnings.
Watch your backs, movie-spoiler sites -- the Wall Street Journal appears to be creeping in on your territory.
They're new at it, of course, so they aren't quite up on the rules of spoiler etiquette, such as not spoiling without warning your audience -- and certainly not leading off a story with privileged information. Unfortunately, that's exactly what the WSJ seems to have done in a story published earlier this week.
The article, titled "Big Media Companies Want Back in the Game," really has nothing to do with spoilers in general, or any movie in particular, which is essentially why movie sites around the Web have been foaming at the mouth about the fact that it starts off by spoiling the plot outline for Toy Story 3.
Okay, so as spoilers go, it isn't the hugest of deals. But we're still not sharing it here -- and we're not taking it as fact until CHUD's Jeremy Smith reports back from his planned "grilling" of Pixar's Andrew Stanton. Still, if you want to know what the Wall Street Journal thinks will happen in the third Toy Story, follow the link below!

AquaFina writes: on Feb 22 2008 06:24 AM Still, it's in bad taste to lead a story with any kind of spoiler, especially when the article has little to nothing to do with the film. Bad writing. (Reply to this) |

Ash Trayer writes: on Feb 22 2008 07:37 AM I don't really consider it a spoiler, since we'll see a brief synopsis in the 1st trailer Pixar shows. (Reply to this) |

Dinobot77 writes: on Feb 22 2008 09:11 AM I don't know if you could consider it a spoiler if the movie doesn't get released for another two to three years. Also, I would be curious to know who their source was in the studio. Normally plot lines released this long in advance are really suspect anyways. (Reply to this) |

Exode writes: on Feb 22 2008 10:09 AM This isn't a spoiler unless someone planned to pull a Cloverfield and ignore everything up until the moment they enter the theater. The idea presented in the article is a logical next step for the franchise, sounds wonderful. (Reply to this) |

tgibfo writes: on Feb 22 2008 10:42 AM This looks like less of a spoiler and more of a well-planned leak to get people excited. Looks like it worked. (Reply to this) |

jackkovack writes: on Feb 22 2008 01:13 PM This wasn't a spoiler. It was a very short 2 sentence general plot outline which is neccessary to get people interested in a movie anyway. The only thing this spoiled is the teaser trailer. (Reply to this) |

JoshTee! writes: on Feb 22 2008 02:12 PM I agree. Not a spoiler. That was a plot outline. A spoiler gives something away about the ending -- or something you're otherwise not supposed to know when going in to the theaters. (Reply to this) |

Wayward Sean writes: on Feb 22 2008 03:23 PM I agree with AquaFina. While not exactly a spoiler, it still seems that newspapers need to learn a little self-control when it comes to releasing possibly classified information that someone, fan or executive, might not want revealed without a spoiler warning. IMAmoose24 writes: on Feb 23 2008 10:29 AM I'm not too sure about the plot either... but it's pixar, and i don't think they've ever let me down(I heard cars was a disappointment. Glad I never saw it). I was just watching The Incredibles 2 nights ago and realized how great pixar movies are. Both Kids and adults can enjoy it. Sends a good message to the kids and are just plain fun. Go Pixar! (Reply to this) |
