Enslaved by an evil, Botox-junky step-mom, Sam is forced to scrub floors at her late father's diner, thus earning the eternal disdain of the snooty popular kids in school. Luckily she has a friend in artsy nerd Carter, and a text-message romance with a poetic schoolmate she's never met. She also has a fairy godmother in the sweet diner manager, who helps Sam get decked out and disguised for the Halloween dance. At the dance, she discovers her prince is one of the popular kids, Austin Ames. Happily ever after seems like a long shot, though, because Austin is burdened by pressures at school and at home, and Sam can't shake her "diner girl" inferiority complex. I'LL BE THERE: An aging rocker (Craig Ferguson) gets his second wind when he discovers that he's got an adolescent daughter (Charlotte Church) as the result of a fling with one of his fans. When they meet, she instantly takes to him and, against the wishes of her mother (Jemma Redgrave), she follows him on tour. NEW YORK MINUTE: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen prove they've graduated from their child-prodigy status with this sassy comedy. The teenage duo play Long Island-based twins Roxy (Mary-Kate) and Jane (Ashley), who may be identical in appearance, but rarely see eye-to-eye in their personal lives. On a Manhattan-bound train, the rebellious Roxy plans on cutting class, attending a rock video shoot, and presenting her demo tape to the band's manager. Meanwhile, the straight-laced Jane is heading to Columbia University, where she hopes to gain a college scholarship. Disaster strikes when the duo are unceremoniously dumped from the train and a shady criminal places a microchip in Roxy's bag. Some crazy capers throughout the Big Apple follow, and various set pieces are engineered to show off the vivacious and endearing charms of the two sisters. [More]
